please I need some critiques on this, I wasn’t sure if to use cubes for the legs or cylinders. And on my previous posts thanks.:)

Hello, Would it be possible to get more than one example from the instructor?
Vic Araullo-Peters
Started with torso cubes and extended the body a bit.

please help to understand and practise this lesson better " Structure Basics".
Filippo Galli
My animal decomposition into simple shapes. Might have gone a bit too simple on the dormouse and too complex on the cat.

One more.

here is a bear that I drew, as one of the first structure drawings Ive done. I tried to build off of the gesture of that I drew. Any critique is welcome!

Some constructions after watching the critique video, I think I'm getting the hang of it but sometimes I struggle about knowing when to use a round shape or a box to simplify the forms and connecting them together in a cohesive way, any feedback is appreciated!
Rachel Dawn Owens
What I like to do when thinking about round vs box forms is to think of fleshy vs bony parts. Boxy corners can give the illusion of hard bone. While round shapes can give the illusion of soft flesh. I like your drawings so far. The forms fit together nicely and your lines are lovely.

I scribbling along while watching, it's warmups I realized I miss doing. Relaxing.

Working on giving the animals some more structure. Should I make them more box shaped?

Here are my attempts on structure. The Shark was particularly difficult! Any feedback appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm really not sure about how I interpeted the photo's in some of these. Especially the wolf is meh, since I struggled seeing the space due to the fur. Some feedback would be nice!

I have a question: When simplifying anything, is there a 'correct' way to interpret the shapes found in the subject? Like for example, I might see a half-circle in the subject's head, but another person might interpret it as a cut-off box. Would both interpretations in that case be considered 'correct,' or would one of them be considered the appropriate shape to be put into the drawing? Thanks!

The advantage of boxes is that they are the first phase. The circles or semicircles would come later. The boxes have straight lines and help build good perspective.

I have been enjoying drawing pictures. Thank Proko so much.

Some animal structure practice! Critique is welcome! Initially I was struggling a lot with breaking down animals into shapes (what shapes to use, etc.) but moderndayjames’ video on how to draw animals really helped. However I know I still have more improvements to make so I’m considering spending another week on this after watching Proko’s critique video (not sure why I didn’t watch that beforehand).

You seem to rely on outlines and shapes and avoid adding much structure. Try building your reference with imaginary boxes in place of shapes. Imagine you're using blocks of clay. If that's too difficult, get some clay and actually build it with clay blocks, or build it by gluing sugar cubes together. Then draw what you see and draw it from various angles. Take photos of it and draw directly on the prints the structure you see. It takes a lot of observation and practice to convincingly show structural depth on your paper, but it's important to make it fun too.

love it when you do your examples of the exercise. I'm pretty dumb so I tend to not realise I CAN do a quick gesture first before adding the structure.
