Ass-ignment

Your assignment is to give Skelly a butt! I've included 3 photos of Skelly posed in the downloads tab, or you can use the Skelly app to make any pose you'd like! Think about where each muscle originates and inserts. You can keep the lower leg as a simple cylinder. Or a bloated cylinder. Think about how the forms of the butt muscles are distorted by the pose.

Quite difficult but the butterfly simplification makes it easier, and more enjoyable :)

2023/12/31. Good morning everybody. here's my last anatomy diagram for this year. It's a general overview of the leg muscles so I'm not sure if posting it here is correct. Anyway, thanks for any comment or critique.

Butt muscle practise! 1-3 with the provided skelly refs and 4 from imagination.

2023/1/8. Good morning everybody. Here’s my latest study about contrapposto. Since the focal point is the butt I post it here (source: “The Anatomy of Style” by @Patrick Jones). Thanks for any comment or advice.

The buttock to the right is a little off.

Nice! The anatomy looks pretty accurate and I like how you simplified the thigh into a cylinder 💪 - The glutes feel a little thin. Try to show more thickness. I think you did this well in #3. - I think the IT-band should insert further down, onto the tibia. Hope this helps :)

This is my assignment: the first picture is me realising I have no clue how to draw these muscles :D After watching Stan's example, i decided to do some bonus skelly poses !
James Paris
Thank You Jesper, I'll do that, maybe I'm twisting the glutes too much actually ! I will work on it a bit more !
Jesper Axelsson
Nice work! - Something about the glutes feels a little off. I think you would benefit from doing some tracings of a model, to get more exact shapes and proportions, and to see how they react around the great trochanter. Hope this helps :)

not my great study

Nice studies! - In the 3rd tracing, it feels a bit like the gluteus maximus is sagging. I think it should originate a bit higher up and have fiber lines that curve downward less. You can compare with the 3D Model - The Butt Muscles, to see where you're off. Hope this helps :) Keep up the good work!

2022/9/1. Good morning everybody. Here’s my latest anatomy study (Conte Sepia 617 and General White 558 on paper Pastel Mermaid, 41x30 cm). From @Patrick Jones’s e-book “The Anatomy of Style”. Thanks for any comment or suggestions.

Hi Marco. Nice drawing. The volume is strong. And the silhouetes look really good. As suggestion out maybe of anatomy. Loks like that in the drawing of the left. In the pump of the sacrum. The light and the strong dark of the shadow, and the clash of it, is exactly as the one on the left gluteus. And so, gives a sense of depth that says they have the same volume someway. It would need to have lower the value of the darkness and light on the sacrum area. Even if that is what you saw on the reference. If that is the case, it is a matter of going slower and planning through the process what should be perceived more perpendicular to the lightsource: volume perception through light reflection. Hope it helps. Keep the work up! PS: remember you can do some small sketches of smaller number of values of light and darks that you will use. And beacuse it is to think on the volume through lightning, you could simplify the masses all you want always you can judge the sense of volume and plan over it. It will save you time on long term.

Nice job. I can see you're trying hard to understand the glutes. I love the Jedi one ;).
