Think I should have made some line darker. Looks really light in the photo. Was not really sure what to draw since I could not come with much in my mind. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You got the concept of this lesson! Nice attention to detail with the grid paper following the perspective line as well. I did notice that in the second drawing, it looks like the cabinets on either side of the room are outside of the lines that you made to define the floor. You have good bones to start adding detail here. Think about ways you could add character to these scenes. Maybe the one with the grid paper is the office of a disorganized architect. Have fun with it!

is this course good for an absolute beginner? I'm currently in the drawing basic course
Michael Hampton
Hard to say. I try to keep things as simple as possible and very step by step. It's a challenging subject though.

I struggled bad on these. I could not do them in 5 minutes because I just did not know where to start. I only did 5 after that I just started getting discourage on how some of them started coming out. I would like some feedback on reference 5 because I had no clue how to draw the foot from behind. Edit: Also, I had a question on the demo videos. Are we supposed to draw along with the demo videos? I find it a bit tedious to keep pausing and then draw make corrections then play. I usually do this with most of the demo videos but just wondering if it's better to just sit through it and look at how he does the demos?
Martha Muniz
When starting out with these for the first time, spending more than 5 minutes is definitely okay, and even encouraged. It helps to spend the time working out how each part of the body relates to one another, and going through this process is key to eventually cutting down on the time. Already, you can see that there's a lot of good simplification in your drawings as you reduce the figure to the essential lines. When it comes to the foot, if you continue thinking about the foot as a simple wedge shape, you can connect it to the energy flowing in from the leg. The heel, which can be a simple square end, also serves as a good landmark to indicate the ground plane and the foot's direction. When it comes to demos, I think there's a lot of value in following along with them as it helps engrain the process into your hand, as art is much more about practice than theoretical knowledge. That said, everyone learns differently and if you find it frustrating, give it a try solely watching first then doing the assignment on your own -- as long as you're still practicing the assignment, the lessons should still effective as training. Hope this helps!

I spread some over the course of two days. Not sure if we are supposed to all 30 of them? I redid the first four. What I attached is the ones I am happy with. I had a pretty fun time doing these. I wonder if I did them correctly. I know in the video Stan mentions that gesture is not contour, but I feel like I do not really understand the difference, since I feel like I copied the contour of the seals. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
Melanie Scearce
When Stan said that gesture is not contour, he is really trying to encourage you to use sketchy lines and find the movement of the drawing, which you have done well in your drawings! If you continue on with this assignment, try to shift your focus from copying the contour lines, to finding the energy in the shapes first, and then using long, controlled strokes to design them. Good luck :)

I know my lines are a bit light, but I did not want to go to hard in case I wanted to erase. Did not really enjoy this project it was pretty tedious. I think maybe I may have cheated a bit. In the beginning I was using his demo guideline in this video where he explains his thought process and starts drawing the blue and red lines for measurements. The project was just a bit difficult because I honestly did not know where to start. Then seeing all the guidelines and measurements he made I just thought were a bit too much for me to follow. The lay in itself I worked the day before and spent maybe a good 1.5 hours or more trying to make sure everything would fall in the proper space, and I could probably say I still have mistakes on the proportions. At the end I just became frustrated and started filling in the eyes and the nostrils.
Rachel Dawn Owens
It looks like you’re getting it. I like the drawing before you added the eyes I think. The proportions look great. Sometimes it’s ok to walk away if it feels too frustrating. It’s ok to draw slow. You don’t want to draw faster than your thoughts and when you’re new, you might be slow. But just like with anything else, it gets faster and easier with some practice. You could compare it to weightlifting. Something that seems too heavy now, can feel like nothing in a few months if you work out regularly. Keep it up! I think you’re doing just fine.
@karl2019
I have attached my references. Sort of guilty of just rushing these because they were very frustrating to me. I was not sure If I was just supposed to draw the face or the whole animal. I have watched the demo and critiques already. Going to try and redo them. Not really happy how these came out.
@karl2019
Feel like the hand was just tough for me I had to do it three times the first time around and decided to just go with my first because the other two were just not coming out the way I wanted them to. The pencil drawings are the first attempts. I feel like after watching the video demo and critiques I missed the point of the assignment, so I redid them. The red pencil drawings are the 2 attempts. I tried this time to keep a more lose approach and not worry so much about proportion. You can see I cared a lot about proportion given I had to use two pages for the VR girl on my first attempt.
@karl2019
So, these were before the demo and critique. Honestly, I don't think I'm going to be redoing the boots again lol the shoelaces were really difficult. I saw the demo already and saw his approach to just drawing a sort "box" to incase the boots in. I think I am going be using that technique from here on out. Any feedback is welcome I'm not sure if my other posts have gotten feedback because I don't know if there is a notification that goes off if one is given feedback.

These are lovely drawings. Don’t be afraid to make darker marks sometimes too.

SNAIL: I was unsure if adding lines to the biggest section of the snail part to create surfaces as in the pear exercise makes sense here. BOOTS: I felt confident about the lines i drew but not about the level of detail. Are the boots too simple? Thank you.

as others have said, try to do the laces. If you look at them there mostly sort of like c and s curves, I could be wrong. When I was drawing them, I just tried to think back to CSI and saw that the laces have some c curves. The laces did take a bit of time, but it does add that boot effect lol
@karl2019
so, I did another attempt at the pair after watching the demo and critique video. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
