Hello there! i‘ve seen Stan‘s update post here, but I‘m still on the fence of buying this course. Is this being completed?
Marius Ludwig
Interested in getting this course but I feel unsure tbh. Is there a schedule for future lessons? Is there more to be published in part 1? What are some alternative courses?
Stan Prokopenko
We've got some news regarding the digital painting course. First off, the not-so-great part - Jon Neimeister won't be able to wrap up the remaining lessons of the course. We know many of you have enjoyed his insights and teaching style, and it's a bummer not to have him finish up the course. However, life throws curveballs, and we're committed to delivering the quality education you signed up for. The good news - we've put together a team of digital painting instructors to take over and finish this course. We selected artists that specialize in each remaining topic. It will move much faster since multiple artists will be working on videos at the same time. Producing this course is at the top of our priorities right now. Stay tuned for more updates about Jon's replacements, and as always, we're here if you have any questions or need a hand with anything.We appreciate your patience and understanding, Stan and the Proko Team
Nicole Drews
Definitely bummed, Jon Neimeisters' the best art teacher I've had. I'm not sure what exactly worked but the things he taught just seemed to click for me, and I constantly find myself applying tips and techniques he taught throughout all of my illustrations since then. That being said, I completelyy understand life throwing curveballs and I wish the absolute best for Jon, and am incredibly grateful for what he was able to teach and share with us <3 I appreciate you guys continuing the course and putting it at the top of your priorities
@blankfuture
It's good to have this update. Now I sincerely hope that the teachers selected will deliver a quality result while respecting the original curriculum. What interested me in Jon's format was the advanced techniques of material rendering, light rendering and edge control. I hope you'll get a Riot artist or Legend of Runetterra for the advanced part. They're the best out there (Esben Lash -Rudy Siswanto - Jessica Oynehart - etc) PS: Add a few extra lessons for the wait and subtitles if possible

it would be nice if they added subtitles ,like in other proko courses, since they are updating it. For those who are not native speakers of English it would be an extra help. (at least have English subtitles)

is this course cursed? Iam glad I hasitated to jumped in since this course dropped. Wanted to buy it whole but here we are 2 years later :( really sad
Kimberly Lee-Lewis Adams
Hey, @Michal Velart @spadeydraws and @William Mclean! Thanks for your patience and apologies on our silence. But great news...@Stan Prokopenko just posted an update on the direction of the course! It took some time to sort out what direction we were gonna take, but there is alot of excitement and momentum over here at Proko to get this course DONE!
William Mclean
I wanted to get it too. But it hasn't been updated in a year. And he hasn't posted anything in response of why he has an updated it yet, aside from that post he did from last year.

@blankfuture
I hope we are going to get updates soon. Is Jon alright ?
Kimberly Lee-Lewis Adams

What are the prerequisites doe this course i saw a potrait in the thumbnails of the vidoes do we need to take the potrait drawing clss also and is the figure drawing fundamentals course enough or do we need to take the anatomy course as well because i noticed you added muscles in the sample cideo.Also im about to purchase a screen drawing tablet.Is the feeling very different from paper does it feel like the pen is dragging the line drawn
Taylor Brown
I wanted to say thank you for making the painting in greyscale lesson available to everyone, it is the best explanation of tones ever! I took the ideas you taught in that lesson and I was able to do this on paper. I’m no artist-I maybe draw a few times a year, and was always bad at it. After seeing what happened after just one of your lessons, I purchased your digital painting course immediately. I’m excited to go through this course!
Jon Neimeister
Hey, everyone! I hope you've all had a fantastic start to the new year and are excited to dig into the next segment of this course. I wanted to give a quick update on our plans for this year as there's been a slight change to our production schedule. I've accepted a new job on Hearthstone which is very exciting but also means I have to move across the entire country, which has been consuming every waking moment of the past month or so. As such, there will be a bit of a delay in the release of the next episodes until I can get settled into my new place and re-establish my recording setup. We have a LOT of great content coming for the course this year that I'm super excited to share, and I want to be sure I give it 110% effort rather than squeezing it in between a million other things. I do apologize for the delay, but I can promise the next section is gonna be awesome and well worth the wait. Thank you so much for your patience, and I can't wait to continue painting with you in 2023! <3
Maria del mar Garcia Sanchez
Hey Jon! How are you going on your new place? I hopewell! I can´t wait for to see all the amazing lessons on the second part of the course (the first part was really a masterpiece!!)

Ah, I didn't notice this comment until now. I hope you're doing well in your new environment. I've re-watched the Part 1 lessons and challenged assignments again and again, and every time I played the videos it improved me because I realized how many things I forgot or didn't understand well so I felt as if the course were always active so far. I keep practicing hard to prepare myself for the release of the next episodes!
Tsotne Shonia
Oooh so that's what you teased when you announced that you were leaving HiRez, I was quite curious 👀 That's awesome 😊 wish you the best at your new job And I second what Nicole Drews said, pretty much sums up my thoughts

Can I use cap instead of Photoshop for this
Jon Neimeister
You can definitely use CSP! The first section of the course is focused a lot on tools, presented in Photoshop, but CSP has pretty much all the same tools and it should translate relatively well. :)

I'm new to Proko, do classes include indivitual critiques? I learn the most through seeing my worked picked apart. Thanks,

No, you can use the forum for this, it can help.
Jesper Axelsson
Hi @Jon Neimeister, do you have any experience with Krita? Can I use it for this course? Thanks in advance :)
John B

Hey Jesper, the course is meant to be software agnostic so you should be able to benefit from it regardless of what you use. The only thing that you won't benefit from are the photoshop shortcuts that he may mention throughout the lessons. The core concepts will transfer to any program though.

Hey all, just wanted to give an update that the latest critique video is taking a bit longer to finish up than we expected so we're aiming to release it early next week. Very sorry!
Nicole Drews
thanks for the update:)

I can't learn any of Digital Illustration and Advanced Techniques. what do you mean?
Nicole Drews
The course is still live and lessons are coming out every 2 weeks or so atm
Yuki Tsubaki
What is it like when the number of lessons you can learn is 0?
Shivayan Bora
Hi, Just a question, as I am on the fences for purchasing this course. But just wanted to ask that if this course is good for beginners? I am a complete beginner in both drawing and painting but want to get into digital illustration.
Jon Neimeister
Hey, Shivayan! This course is definitely geared towards beginner and intermediate artists. More advanced artists can still get value from some on the in-depth Photoshop knowledge and processes, but overall the course is designed so that even if you've never picked up Photoshop before you'll have a solid foundation by the end of the course. The one caveat is that the course is exclusively focused on painting, which does rely heavily on drawing. It's never too soon to start learning painting, but the stronger your drawing skills are the easier it will be to execute the assignments. I think Proko's Figure Drawing course is a great place to start if you're brand new to art, but if you've been drawing / painting for a while and just want to level up this course is made for you! In regards to the rest of the course content, we have lots more coming up. "35+ lessons" was a baseline in our initial planning, but the course has been expanding while we've developed it and the "halfway" mark is still a ways off. Once we're through this Intro to Photoshop, the rest of the course will be exclusively painting focused and will be notably longer than the Photoshop section. :)
Alexander Works
I think it's pretty much specifically for beginners even; considering the first part is teaching you photoshop. Actually it's been my biggest concern about the course, it's already got 17/35 supposed courses, so like half of them are done and the first half is still about photoshop introductions mostly.....

Hello. I mean not to be disrespectful, and I understand that people are busy and random things can happen that make it very difficult to stick to schedule. Plus, we were told that lessons would come "loosely" weekly, which doesn't imply a strict schedule anyways. But despite all of that, I am quite disappointed regarding the situation on the last two months. I couldn't find the exact dates of the lesson releases, but from what I can gather, the 4th lesson came out on 27th of march, and the next one on 16th april, and we've had no news since then. I'm writing this on 2nd of may. This is closer to a monthly release. Also, Jon mentioned he'd be critiquing the students work, but as far as I can see, the few reviews are all from other students. Perhaps what frustrates me the most in this situation is the fact that we are not even told what's going on. Everyone acts like this is normal. Could we at least have some explanation? Is it going to be like this all course long? As someone who bought this on presale last year, and was quite excited, this is very annoying. Perhaps I am in the wrong and my expectations were just too high. If that is the case, I understand that these things should be taken in consideration when purchasing yet-to-be completed courses on Proko. I hope I'm not sounding needlessly rude. Please understand that I don't mean to cause negativity, and am asking for at least clarification.
Sean Ramsey
Hi Tsotne, Editor here. Really sorry about the delay in content. We were really pushing to get the next lesson out last week but had some unexpected delays on our part and we're really sorry for stuff not coming out as fast as we'd like. Our goal is to release one a week for the next several weeks though if that's any consolation. Again, sorry for dropping the ball on that.
@szanatielod
Hello! I would also like to share my toughts. I am very dissapointed in this course. I was very excited to finally start it, and as a complete beginner I could not wait to jump into the world of painting and learn all the fundementals and tips and tricks that comes with the craft. The schedule of the program is shambolic. It was stated that the new lessons will be released weekly or biweekly, yet we can be happy if we get one every month. I am sure that the instructor is busy and this is more of a side project for him, and I would not mind if it was kept by more than one intstructor, but I feel like this is unacceptable. Most of the lessons so far were in timelapses. I am truly a beginner and do not have any experience when it comes to drawing or painting. These timelapses are not that useful for me because more than often I have no idea what is going on, what brushes are being used in what way. I understand that most people know it better and more obvious to them, but I feel like that the course sometimes are not that beginner friendly, and if you add to it the fact that the instructor promised to review and advise on the works we have done, and have not delivered, it leaves me very unsatisfied. The course started off pretty well, I enjoyed it at the beggining, but for now I am very dissapointed and if it was a possibility I would refund the course.
