I got a little too precious with the boots once I tried to simplify the laces.
LESSON NOTES

This exercise will help you avoid chicken scratch. Instead of uncertain pecking at the paper. We're going to draw each line with a focused and intentional path. Remember to draw from your shoulder, elbow and wrist. Avoid the fingers. When I tell you guys to simplify your lines, I'm usually referring to three types of lines, two curves and one straight.

ASSIGNMENTS

Download the photo reference images and try to simplify them using CSI lines. Draw each line with a focused and intentional path.

Your pace should be quick, but not rushed.

For this exercise, we will just consider the individual segments of the contour of a shape.

Same instructions for level one and two. Just a difference in difficulty of reference. The level two photos have more fun little tidbits to tempt you to get into the details, but fight the urge and simplify.

Also, no shading in these please. This is not meant to be a portfolio piece.

Here is my first go at the boots and snail! This was quite a challenge, especially the laces, but I had a lot of fun doing these. I didn't properly judge the amount of space I'd need for the boots so I was forced to shorten the right boot. I think I'll give these another go after I watch the demo.

First attempt at all of them besides the camel. I'm level 1 if I'm being honest, but I really like skulls so I thought I'd have a go. The left boot's shape itself came out okay, I really struggled with the laces though and I think I just got overwhelmed by them all . The right boot I got totally wrong, should've put more thought into where I was putting it on the page. The snail was fine I guess, I think I got carried away with the dark spots and should've focused more on the exercise itself. The Skull I think I made too big on the page so I couldn't get much of the Clavicle and the rest of the rib cage.
@manuellopezcabrera
Level 2 projects + snail. The skull was definitely the most fun project until now! Really enjoying the 14 day challenge so far
Chuck Ludwig Reina
Looking good! I love seeing all 3 on the same page.
Arash Nouri
Still trying to understand how to view the images in a better way, but I’ll keep going and learning.

I wish I took more time with the laces. I think I'm gonna draw more shoes now until I get it right

I really struggle with making the rivets look turned in 3d space. Like most on here I found the shoe strings to be difficult as well, specifically the top left area of the boot on the left. Any tips for practicing perspective for my first issue here? I have heard it's good to draw shapes at different angles but I'm not really sure where to start with that.
Chuck Ludwig Reina
Nice work! Circles are one of the hardest things to draw in perspective, for sure. There are some quick principles that may help: - A circle at any angle other than facing right at us will always form an ellipse. - the direction it turns away from you will determine the shape of the ellipse, making it narrower in the direction it is turning away. This info can also help us realize what way the rest of tehs show is going by looking at the angle of the ellipse. Pretty neat. But keep it up. Like I said, circles are hard, but as you do them more, you will get an intuitive feeling for how they work.

Still practicing seeing big shapes and not worrying so much about details.
@manuellopezcabrera
First attempt at simplifying using CSI method. Also first day of the 2 week challenge!
Chuck Ludwig Reina
Nice work!

I think I kinda deviated from the idea of the project. I spent alot of time trying to get some lines right, I couldnt finish the left pair but I added some details to the right one.
Gabriel Feliciano
didnt use any straights too, I jump to Stan demo to see his run

Csi and day 6 of 2 week drawing challenge added a little bit of shading.

For what it's worth, I feel like that all the time when I look at the stuff people upload. I expect, like me, many people are a bit hesitant to share for that exact reason.
Mitchell Jackson
Nah, you're doing fine. It just takes time. I know it's easier said than done but, try to find enjoyment in the act of drawing itself & not the final result. Draw a lot, find some of your own reference images to try, make your way through the course & see where you get.
@dwilliams1
Really struggled with the laces on the boots, but here’s my level 1 drawings

Didn’t feel too confident with the boots but felt better with the snail!

I can't tell if I'm holding my pencil too lightly or if I'm rushing. Had a lot of fun with the snail but you can see where I misplaced a few lines.
Jacob Granillo
Amazing sketches Herman, keep it up!
Valeria Puhach
My level 1 drawings. I dont know if it should be more simple on boots. But anyway here is it so far
Patrick Bosworth
Nice work! The boots look nicely simplified, you kept to using C, S, and I lines, good eye on proportions, too. The line quality gets a little fuzzy on the laces, but they're looking really solid! Keep it up!

Here's my first attempt using the boots. My understanding is we just want to capture contours, the silhouette, and C/S curves?

I looked at the feedback video. He did all the laces 💀 Going back to add these in
