Do 5 pages of warmups around the principles of drawing covered in lesson.

Line Mastery:

  • Dedicate one page to practicing various types of lines, including straight lines, S-curves, and circles.
  • Incorporate principles of ghosting to improve line control and precision.
  1. Spoke Wheel Exercise:

    • Experiment with creating a spoke wheel design by striking lines through a central dot, ensuring equal length and spacing.
    • Practice maintaining consistency and precision in line placement.
  2. Shape Familiarity:

    • Explore basic primitive shapes such as ellipses, cylinders, and spheres.
    • Devote separate pages to understanding and mastering each shape through repetitive practice.

Been working on some Form Intersection drawings to practice my perspective. Let me know what you think.

I know it said five pages but my canvas is pretty big on digital XD, some are a bit wonky but I hope I did okay :)
Michael Hampton
Great work!

Hi Michael, first of all i am happy taking this course by the artist and teacher i admire. I think some lines are a bit wonky on my assignment. Would be great to hear your quick feedback, if you have the time.
Michael Hampton
Those are wonky!? Dear lord lol. They look damn near perfect.
Miles Tesch
This definitely made me realise that I'm not great at drawing circles, haha. I loved the form intersection exercise though, the only thing I struggle with is visualising how spheres interact with other forms.
Michael Hampton
Nice work!

I used to engage with a lot of Drawabox's content and it was good to come back to similar information. I'm looking forward to apply it again with my figures! The analogy used of the ABC's of drawing really resonated with me, I really enjoyed giving some awareness of which component of those ABC's I was about to use before making a stroke. It was an awareness I don't think I appreciated too much before. The Form Intersections exercise was challenging but very fun, and had me really trying to problem solve how edges of the forms interact with each other in space in interesting ways. I can already see how helpful the exercise will be, especially when it comes to invention. I'm looking forward to the next lessons!
Michael Hampton
Glad to hear it clicked for you! These are great exercises!

Hi, here are a few pages from the first week. I really like them and I especially use them to warm up before every drawing session. Now, I would like to focus on intersections.
Michael Hampton
Great job on these!
Marcio de Freitas
That's all I had time to do today, plus about 10 pages or so of warm-ups and other miscellaneous exercises. Would contour lines here help? Thoughts?
Michael Hampton
Lines look really clean. Nicely done.

not really used to draw digitally but I wanted it for this assignment. otherwise its hard to see the light lines if I draw with pencil.

Any feedback is welcomed thanks

These are great starts! Just keep at it and now focus on how this carries over into the lessons on figures.

For S-curves I decided to have a bit of fun and play with river-like landscapes. The contrast setting wasn't really cooperating but you aren't actually missing anything. The last page (the one where you have 8 boxes) I was fatigued just trying to "wing it" admittedly and paid the penalty for not taking the time to do ghosting. Ballpoint pen is more forgiving than any other pen and that wasn't going to save a reckless lead weighted wrist then!
Michael Hampton
Nice studies!
@bumatehewok
Great lessons so far. I really want to get better with cylinders and eclipses. I Especially struggle trying to identify the correct planes when drawing from observation.

Hello Michael, looking forward to learning from you and growing as an artist. Please see below examples of some of my Work. And please let me know what you think about where I could improve. Also, I hope you don't mind but I kind of adlibbed a little with the shape selection.
Michael Hampton
Looking good! There's always room for improvement in the perspective exercises. I think you should move on to the figures now!

Sorry about the intersection ones, did those on the train.

I tried my best to avoid ctrl-z/Undoing most of these attempts. I'm also trying to do them traditionally though I haven't tried intersecting forms on paper.
Roland Sortor
Will state that I am an absolute beginner but I have been doing lines and shapes on my Ipad. That said I actually had to do 14 pages to get used to having more friction from the paper
Michael Hampton
Nice starts. These are deceptively tough exercises. I find myself returning to them all the time and still finding mistakes. Have you tried starting your circles from squares? That really helps me with judging the accuracy and fixing little mistakes. Keep it up!
Gannon Beck
Getting started with some notes. I might do some of these in a sketchbook as well. Procreate has some cheats when it comes to straight lines and ellipses that I'm tempted to use when I'm doing these digitally.
Michael Hampton
Looking good!
Menelik Powell
I planned on doing it with pen on paper however, I’m going to be moving soon and i have already packed away my art supplies. So i used my iPad and tried to not use the undo gesture as much as possible.
Michael Hampton
Great job on these!

Hi Michael!!! I really love your art, you are a big inspiration for me, and I want to know if we are going to have some shading class or something like that. I have your book and I really love the shading and the look the drawings have, but I don’t know how to get it. I would love to have something like that. Thank you!
Michael Hampton
Hey, thanks so much. I'm humbled to hear that. I will definitely work on something like that. Great start on the exercises btw. They're looking solid.
