I tried to combine the hierarchy of importance and light and shadow lines in one drawing. I completed this assignment digitally.

I love doing exercises like these! Just wish I had one of my giant sketchbooks with me

I liked these! I think I’ll assign each one to a side of a die (+ the mushrooms warm-up) to shuffle which to do each day at the start of a session.

I actually struggled a lot with this assignment and had to re-do it several times, but I'm pretty happy with the end result. Feedback is always welcome and appreciated!

I tried to draw a red panda from my imagination, using elements from a couple of different reference photos. It didn't really turn out like I wanted and I feel like I had a lot of trouble with perspective and the proportions.

Today I gave the boots a go, after watching the demo for the snail. Tried drawing more confident lines here compared to my snail, hopefully it worked. I did skip the laces because it was kind of a tangled mess and I felt like it would make the drawing too complicated.

Tried to draw the snail, wondered at times if my lines were too complicated, but also worried that maybe they were not complicated enough.

Interesting, I hadn't really noticed the core shadow while working on my pear. I also realized that I may have kept my shapes a little too simple, so some parts have these big blocks of value that look kind of awkward. Overall, I feel like it's harder to distinguish the change in values within the shadows compared to the changes in value in the lighter areas. (Attaching my drawing again for reference).

I found this exercise very useful because it made me realize that I don't think about shapes, values, and edges as much as I should. It was also challenging because it was the first time I really analyzed the subject of my drawing so deeply. This new perspective makes me want to try the level 2 portrait as well, just to try and see what happens when I apply these concepts to a human face. I used 6B, 4B, 2B, and H pencils for this drawing.
