Level 1 assignment This was fun! Done digital, for the hierarchy of importance version I prioritised the horns, then the head, then the body and finally the legs. For the light and shadow version I did include depth in the line weight, it just seems more intuitive to think of light that way (to me). I think I could have made the light edge of the head a bit heavier to separate it better from the body, but overall I’m proud of how it came out. I’m also getting more comfortable on CSP, the pencil “brush” is really fun and allows me to get a nice taper in my lines.

Is it just me or is the tip #3 missing? :D

#3 is Follow Through. You could check the lesson notes

I liked these! I think I’ll assign each one to a side of a die (+ the mushrooms warm-up) to shuffle which to do each day at the start of a session.

That's a great idea, I might use it too

Critique wanted and welcomed! I haven’t watched the demos nor critiques yet. First was the penguin, then the VR girl and finally the hand. interestingly the penguin had a lot of trial and error; then for the VR girl I realised I was too focused on only accuracy, losing some “sketch-iness” and taking way too long for what to my understanding was supposed to be a dynamic sketch. Finally for whatever reason everything clicked for the hand, and the lines were going where I wanted them to. My focused was fully on design and for each individual line I asked myself wether I wanted a C, S or I line and what its purpose was. I also started doing tapered lines unconsciously.

First I did the snail, then the provided boots reference and then after watching the demo and critique my own pair of boots. During the snail I did focus on simplifying to CSI lines, the boots distracted me so much with the laces that at several points I forgot to stick to CSI lines. For my own one I did do my best to stick to CSI lines, which I think was successful, but it came at the cost of missing some proportions and perspective. Also I started with the right shoe and started getting impatience throughout the left one, which definitely shoes in the cleanliness between both. I think I could still significantly simplify the lines further in both the second and third attempt. Any and all feedback is highly appreciated! Please critique away!

Yep. I need to practice this one. I’m used to mostly using an HB, so I found using a 2B is teaching me to be more sensitive to small pressure changes.

First attempt is the graphite one, second the one with no background and third one the one with background. I used the three provided photos in order. The first two were done before watching the demo, the last one after the demo. This project was fun, it was also the first time I drew digitally (clip studio paint) and I'm loving this program's brushes. After watching the critique video I found some improvement opportunities myself, but I'd love any critiques, even if just to confirm what I annotated. I know I used colour but it's the same shade of green in 4 different values, I just couldn't resist taking advantage of having exact colour choices with drawing digitally.

Looks great! There is good improvement and self-correction between each step :) In the graphite one, the midtones do start to get a bit blurred together, so if you decide to return to traditional, it's something to keep an eye out for. In the second one, the shapes get a bit complex, but by the final pear, it's definitely on the right track. Overall good work!
