Well done nanna! Looks great. I love the rendering and design of the mystical creatures. I think those are my favourite. I also like the cropped composition with the fishes and the idea of the girl riding the bird. Keep up the good work

I found this cutie on Unsplash.com and I just had to make a drawing of him, for today’s color study. He took me 1 h. and 20 m. I tried to implement some of @Marco Bucci's advise from yesterdays “The Color Survival Guide” video: https://www.proko.com/course/the-color-survival-guide/overview That video was super inspiring! - I think I could have pushed the color variation even more, but I'll keep practicing. :)

Year that's a challenge.... hmmm... I think I would go to unsplash.com to find a good cat reference - All photos there is free to use. Here is a link: https://unsplash.com/s/photos/cat Maybe you could find one that have the same kind of body type like the cat, and then use it for a reference, and then add the right color on the fur, eyes and markings. I know it is not the same as the real deal. But I hope it can be helpful in some way. Best of luck and happy drawing! :)

I did this color study today (1,5 hour) My goal is to push myself to work fast while also learning something about colors, structure light and shape design. I think the skin and the hand was hard to do, under such short amount of time. Link to reference photo: https://unsplash.com/photos/BthSqlD2Cso

This is a nicely compelling image, I can think of several stories it could tell. @Nanna Skytte, if you're looking for a challenge, perhaps this is something you could try: change the color palette and see how it affects the mood and the storytelling in the illustration. Maybe you could experiment with a variety of different concepts: colorful, dull, bright, dark, warm, cold... Depending on how comfortable you are with lighting fundamentals, you could also try varying the lighting scheme (hard light, soft light, multiple light sources...) , or maybe vary just the colors themselves for now. Perhaps you could even ignore all the details in the image and work just with very simple thumbnails that allow you to see the "big picture". It's just an idea! :) If you do feel like trying it out, I'll be curious to know how it turns out.

I love it!!! For just 1.5 h you did an excellent job. The only thing I'd say is that you add that grainy texture you put in the book and table to her hat. Other than that, it looks fantastic, congratulations.

It's a good job in my opinion, over all considering the amount of time you have put in it! For the skin maybe the shadow can be renforced just a little in the inferior side of the face. In my opinion, you can even make the shadow a little (but only a very little) reddish and less saturated on the skin. The hand under the face it's quite an issue mainly becouse it isn't so "expressive" neither in the photo reference: maybe you can enhance tridimensionality suggesting the attachment of the anular and adding a little light at the end of the fingers. But, I repeat: well done :)

Maybe I'll just push a little more in the shadow and light contrast, but your work is already really good, that's just what I should do not a critics at you study :)
Jinxed Monster
Oh my! This looks stunning! I think you did an amazing job in such a short time! If I have to be extra, extra picky, I just notice her left arm. In your picture it looks like the whole arms is resting in the table, and in the reference you can see a little light under the wrist. Also the watch (bracelet?) looks like is squash in the table, and along with the wrist it made look the arm and hand a little weird, like an oval. In the reference that part looks more round, like a cylinder. I usually make this mistake a lot more than I would like to admit, and constantly have to correct the forearms because I made them oval instead of cylindrical haha

Wow. Great color study! I really like how many shapes use variations of light blue, there are so many! The colors reflected in table surface is very effective. The only small things i notice for considering is shading lines technique used under chin stands out as different than anything else technique wise, and the shading under her eyes feel a little dark in value. It is interesting to consider if you were doing a longer work, what things in the reference would/ could you change to tell the story even better. For example, is there an even better place to put chair in the foreground? And the plant is at tangent with her face, could it be moved or omitted out for a longer composition?

this honestly looks really amazing, shapes, lighting paint all that is very good. only thing I'd say is it wasn't necessary to show more detail on the neck, as i'ts in the shadow it isn't really needed. best to show detail in more lit areas then dark that also helps to contrast light n dark better
Sonja Müller
I think it is done extremely well! The hand looks a bit awkward but it does so in the reference, too. I think the reason is the 3/4 sleeve and that the watch is very far up. From a distance my brain says the whole skin part is the hand, but it is not. Maybe you could have tricked it and improved the reference buy just putting the watch nearer to the hand so it is an obvious sign where the wrist begins. I am amazed how you do that in that short amount of time with all the depth and small light reflections! And also the color choices :D

Let's see what the community wants. We were planning on keeping this category clean with only official challenges, but if there is enough interest in allowing user created challenges, I'm ok with it. I can just pin the official ones to the top. Let's VOTE.. Reply to this comment with your thought!
Nanna Skytte
I think that every challenge, that can motivate is good. Both official and user created.
Alex Galeri
Just to say great job! Probably the first one is my favourite: love the shapes and the "mood"

Thank you very much Alex :D
Charline B.R.
Bonjour, goedendag, hello, nice to meet you all :) I'm Charline from Belgium. I'm was a 3D artist a decade ago then dropped art carreer entirely. I'm back since 2-3 years as a "hobbyist". I aim at drawing european style comics, mostly self-writen stories. I was told about Proko course a year ago and followed some of the anatomy lessons. I'm glad the website evolved into a full art community (and also impressed it's a web assembly site, much appreciated :p). Proko's lessons were among the most useful I found when I was looking for a fresh restart, this plateform has a big potential to help people improve ! I'm unsure how much I will be able to engage, as I have a day job and a lot of commute, but I will give it a try. Also, I made the mistake to join too many art communities for a while and exhausted myself trying to follow everything everywhere. I'm slow pace person and that burned me out quite a bit. Anyway, see you around, have a good day !

I love your work! especially No. 5 :O Fantastic style you have!
