I must say that learning from the masters is an honest way to know where you are as an upcoming artist because it really does EXPOSE where you are in the journey. I did my master studies after Dave Malan, Soey Milk, and Glen Keane. 1. Dave Malan: This master study was definitely outside of my comfort zone because it forced me to be loosen up and be "less careful" with my lines and construct them with confidence, while emulating the different line variations Dave used. 2. Soey Milk: This studies was more within my comfort zone. In this specific study, Soey Milk uses clean lines, which is what I'm naturally used to. I am excited with how this one turned out. 3. Glen Keane: Now this was the most challenging to study because Glen executed this with a balance of a loose/searching lines and absolute confidence, which was tricky to emulate. I found a Youtube video of him talking through his process and decision making while constructing his lines and it was a bit intimidating. I decided to upload my first attempt to show how much I struggled and I know the second attempt can still be improved on Overall, this master study assignment was a challenging and fun project and will definitely incorporate that into my practice at least every month. I welcome any feedback/critiques :)

Before the demo, I did a comic sketch of Spiderman, but after watching the demo, I realized my sketch wasn't interesting because there was no organization in my line weight (except for the eyes and the spider logo on the chest). After watching the demo, I went back to that drawing and added some organization, using the hierarchy of importance method. I feel like the second sketch is a lot more interesting but I'm definitely open to feedback

1st: Tracing with the light source from the front 2nd: Tracing showing hierarchy of importance 3rd: Freehand sketch with a different light source from behind All critiques are welcome! I'm learning a lot from these lessons.

That makes sense! Thank you very much for taking the time for the feedback. Very much appreciated! @Martha Muniz

I used a lighter pencil H to perform strokes and then an HB to bolden the main contours. I'm still working on drawing loosely and using my whole arm. Overall like the end result and what I'm learning but all critiques are welcome

These are so clean! Normally that would be a great thing, but don't be afraid particularly for this exercise to go even looser with your lines. Start lightly until you find the correct lines and then you can darken them. Overall, your proportions are pretty good, but by using those searching lines, you can improve even more! Good luck :)

Snail and Boots before Demo. All critiques are welcome

First exercise was before the demo. The second one is after the demo. So far, I've learned a lot about proportions and the different shadows and lights. All critiques are welcome.

I can definitely see your progress. The values are a lot more defined. Good job!

Here's my first attempt tat the level 2 portrait observation. I've always overlooked simplification so this was a very interesting challenge. Excited for the progress
