Right so the first image is my first attempt of course, and the second is after I watched the video.
What I notice is that for the first one it's REALLY stiff and looks all just... weird, while with the second one I was sure to work on the actual gesture first. But with the second, I now notice the placement of the arms was a little off.
Maybe one day I'll achieve placement AND gesture🥲
Any advice appreciated❤️

Nothing against Stan, but comparing his drawing to the reference photo, the drawing needs to lose at least 50 pounds. (I think the model would be offended by it.)

My attempt before watching the video.
a few shortcomings on mine.
i missed the pelvis angle, my box has the other side plane showing.
my overall gesture isnt as strong.
i could be more deliberate with my contour lines, a lot of them look like the same angle ellipse
my thoracic arch is too big, it should be more narrow on a lady
could have made more indications of planes on the head.
onto the next one!

This one went surprisingly smoothly.

For this one I followed along at the start, but then went off on my own without Stan's demo for later parts. Kinda wonky looking, especially with the arms, but I tried!

hey guys I am new to this course may I ask what is stan drawing on the belly part? and Why he does that? Coz me personally saw some form on it but I dont think its so obvious. could i use a lighter line weight? And is it simply an artistic decision?

I went back to the explanation video and this appears to be the same or very similar drawing he uses in the abs explanation section. Basically, he uses two shapes to indicate the abs, a cylinder at the top and wider box shape below the belly button. Keep in mind that he says your free to use whatever shapes you feel best fit the figure. So yes it's ultimately up to you as the artist. Stan is showing us one way to do this but you are free to take the principle and apply it as you see fit. Also, these mannequins are simplified versions of the form. For example, pelvis, joints and the head don't have actual box shapes. Boxes are used to help us understand plane changes and orientation. As for line weight, I would say use a lighter line for the gesture and a heavier line for the 3D forms like the abs. Lastly, since you said you are new to this course, make sure to watch previous lessons in this course. All of Stan's concepts build on each other.

my mannequinization assignment. I think i'm starting to get it, but something's still feel off, i think it's the shoulder length. I need some critiques and feedbacks on this.

Hi Samuel! your drawing looks really good. If I may give you some feedback, watch the rotation of the body. Your is turning too much to the front. Your ribcage is a bit too small, and what that did was affect the placement of the breasts. I would suggest checking out the chest and beast Videos in Proko's Anatomy course. I like your cross countour lines.

How do you feel about this messy quick gestural approach? Should I polish them? Work slower?

i feel like you skipped really important parts of the pose's spirit such as the twist at the torso bottom camera angle with wide lense perspective and left leg coming forward right leg going back. you can try takıng notes of the pose's vibe and what are the important parts of the pose before starting. Nice drawing <3

I think it's alright to make multiple lines, as long as they are not random.

Just finished a second time practising mannequinization - far from great but I feel like it is getting easier. I would love some feedback!

So, good try. Sometimes your mind may try to think about the pieces too much, when you start drawing the mannequin. That is normal. The thing you've got to do is remember what you did with the bean, robo-bean, and gesture. Gesture should ALWAYS come first. Think about the force series. Don't give up. This journey should be enjoyable and may, if it is anything like mine, be a long one. I will, about every six months or so, revisit beans, robo-beans, and gesture, even though I've been doing this for ten years or so.

This was so hard, I spent 30 mins just figuring out the robo bean before I could even start mannequinizing. I definitely overcomplicated the legs by adding muscles, which messed up the perspective in certain areas. And the knees…I redrew them a bunch of times and they were still off in the end.

I guess i am getting somewhere. I need some extra training with the hands feet and head. Faces in perspective is a disaster…
