I chose Frank Frazetta and Peter Han for my master studies. I love their line style, and I had a lot of fun with this exercise. I'll definitely be completing more master studies! Any critiques welcome! I have a hard time with holding back from shading.
Alan Massey
I also think this was one of my favorite exercises. It was so much fun, so much. I don't think we were supposed to shade on these and instead focus on line. With that said, though, I think your line quality is great. I think the outer edges of your butterfly need a little more variation in the wings, maybe just a little more darkness in a few obvious areas. But anyways, great work!

So, I did butterflies, and it was a lot harder to do from imagination than what I thought! I need to practice more sketching from imagination. One of my photos wouldn't upload for some reason. Any feedback is welcome!

I love your butterflies! It may help to look at all kinds of angles and try to create a simplified shape for the wings. Draw it in many different positions -- you can even find slo-mo videos of butterflies flying and draw each frame to get an idea of how they move. Do lots of studies and build up your visual library and it will become much easier to create butterflies from imagination. Keep it loose and light until you have a good feel for it, and then you can go in and add the details. Have fun with it :)

Before demos. My proportions are a little off, but hopefully that will get better with time. I've been using an HB, but my lines look so light in these photos! Any feedback always appreciated!

Here is my level 1 and level 2 attempts before the demo. My lines don't look as dark in the photos. I need to work on that.

This was a fun warmup!

The shading is great and even better on the second attempt. Good work!

I've already posted my level 1 pear before the demo, but I wanted to post the before and after together. Any critiques welcome! I am loving this course!
Martha Muniz
Your three-dimensionality and rendering control really shows great improvement in the second attempt. Beautiful work!

Hi everyone! Here's my level 1 pear. Critiques welcome! I don't like my pear's shadow. Not sure why, but I struggled the most with this part lol I'm thinking about completing level 2. Off to watch the demo now.
