Second attempt but this time I studied the inker Denis Rodier. The drawing is from a comic book I recently bought (The Bomb). I haven't used ink though, I only have pencils. I can see that some of my lines are thicker than they should be but I was afraid erasing might ruin the whole thing. Anyway it was fun

I picked Dave Malan for this assignment. I find it really difficult to copy without copying (if that makes sense). I guess I need to try and add my personal touch.

For this assignment, you will want to copy the master as closely as you can. You want to try to understand Dave’s decision making so that you can add that to your own style later.
Stand on the shoulders of giants to improve your own work.
These are all very difficult drawings to study. I applaud you for challenging yourself.
Heres a few tips that could help you get closer to the master drawings:

I wasn't sure how to tackle this assignment to be honest. I definitely need to watch the demo !
The big takeaway for me after watching the demo was to use a much softer pencil and to draw the lines much thicker. Almost like they're shapes in and of themselves

Feeling more and more confident with my lines. It's not perfect (the hand was a bit challenging) but I tried to focus more on the lines and less on the details.
Good job ! Keep at it ! For what I can see, I think that what will help you is find the perfect speed when you're tracing your lines. Keep practicing and you'll get there !

Did the level 2 assignment in addition to level 1. This time I really tried to focus on the lines and on getting more confortable with hand movements. I realised though that I could have simplified the skull even more. anyway it's good practice and I can definitely see some progress even though it's only the beginning.

Very challenging, I had to erase so many times ...
1st attempt with the snail was unnecessarily detailed and the shape wasn't great so I did it a second time trying to simplify more. I struggled a lot with the boots especially the shoelaces. I'll watch the demo and critiques and then try level 2.

Very challenging but fun! I definitely need to practice this on a daily basis until it feels more natural

I wasn't going to but In the end I attempted the level 2 assignment even though this is way above my current level. I struggled A LOT with the values and the edges (I have not watched the demo yet) but it was a very interesting practice, I'm glad I tried.

Before and after the demo. Not too happy with the highlighted parts but that'll do for today :) can't wait to see what's next

Hi all! this is my first attempt before watching the demo. I'm a complete beginner so I'll stick to the level 1 assignment for now. Any feedback appreciated!

I like your shapes! I definitely agree with the shape of the line you made to separate the darks and the lights. If you thicken up that line a bit it becomes the core shadow shape and looks less like an outline. I would also bump the value down on the second darkest value to give you a bit more breathing room in the lighter value range. These adjustments are all minor, you have a really solid foundation here. Nice work 👍
