The orange was NOT easy! I was constantly amazed with how the color changes as the light bounces within the orange. You keep painting and trying to get the color and once you get it, bam, it just reads so well. I was quite taken by how the texture came to be visible too, with just trying to capture the slight changes in light. Had to rely on the color picker a lot on this one, my guesses were close, but at some point I just got lost and had to start sampling colors from the reference. I guess this improves with time. Great assignment! I'll be posting the skull soon, too.
LESSON NOTES

Please paint as many of the assignments as you can and observe how color temperature and relativity play a part.

ASSIGNMENTS

This week's focus is on making a choice and challenging yourself further in your painting journey. Here's a breakdown of your assignment options and additional recommendations:

Assignment Choices

  • Option 1: Paint the hand holding an orange.
  • Option 2: Paint the skull.
  • Additional Challenge: If you're feeling ambitious, try painting both the hand with the orange and the skull.

Further Exploration

For those seeking an extra challenge, consider painting "Early Morning" by Alexander Jakub. This piece offers a fantastic study opportunity and can deepen your understanding and appreciation of light and shadow in painting.

Extra Practice

To aid in your practice and exploration, I've added a few more images to the folder. These are meant to provide you with a variety of subjects and themes to explore at your own pace.

Reminder

Remember, the key to progress in painting is consistent practice. The more you paint, the easier and more intuitive it will become for you. Embrace the process, and don't be afraid to challenge yourself along the way.

Closing

Good luck with your painting endeavors this week! I look forward to catching up with you next week and seeing all that you've accomplished.
