Assignment Choices

Option 1: Paint the hand holding an orange.

Here's my Week 4 assignment about color temperature and color relativity. I tried matching the colors without using the color picker. I mostly used a limited palette of similar hues but differing in saturation and values for most of these, except for the skull that's lighted with the reds and blues at each sides. Feedback and comments are welcome.

I love the assignments this week, although they are very challenging. I am struggling with the early morning. I tried painting directly without line art, and my results seem off to me. I think I need to study how to paint environments.

Eyeballing the colors from the Alexander Jakub painting was pretty challenging but learned a bit about color relativity.

This was enjoyable. I think I had a breakthrough with how I see color towards the end of the assignment. I do have one question though: why does the middle of the skull look purple and orange at the same time? It's very perplexing.

Here is my number 3 assignment. This one took longer then the others, with its subtle textures and lighting. Very relaxing to do though.

The orange was NOT easy! I was constantly amazed with how the color changes as the light bounces within the orange. You keep painting and trying to get the color and once you get it, bam, it just reads so well. I was quite taken by how the texture came to be visible too, with just trying to capture the slight changes in light. Had to rely on the color picker a lot on this one, my guesses were close, but at some point I just got lost and had to start sampling colors from the reference. I guess this improves with time. Great assignment! I'll be posting the skull soon, too.

And my skull is here. I found this one more interesting to paint, but harder than expected. Sooo much nuance in color. Thanks for the cools reference photos Jeremy!

Here are my paintings for this weeks assignment. I am very pleased with the orange, I made textures without over thinking while looking at the light mainly.
