MEDCUBE (Learning Color)

Assignment

598

Bonus assignment!- I suggest trying this on different shapes to merge this understanding with the first assignment. Try this same process with;

  • Spheres
  • Donuts
  • Cylinders
  • Cones

Some people have tried putting context to the cubes, such as drawing and rendering out dice, a Christmas gift, and -ooh! A companion cube from Portal 2 would be pretty dang cool.

MORE

  • HARD MODE:
Draw and render all 5 of these Tetris blocks in a scene with a light source of your choosing. They can be arranged however you like - floating, stacked, radial arrangement - it's up to you!

  • LEGENDARY MODE:
Render an exploded view of the MedCube of your choosing, each cube section is floating away from one another (with 27 cubes total), with a light source casting shadows onto other cubes.

Had fun experimenting with hue.

Here is my assignment for the color project. This time, I focused on intuitively adjusting the hue and value shifts in the shadows. What do you think?

Pretty good though one of the cube in the first pic is a little off but pretty good overall

Colours are fun! I liked the tetris piece exercise quite a bit, imagining all the shadows and different colours of reflected light was a nice challenge

Doing some revisions after watching the critique video * I accidentally coloured one of the tetris pieces blue instead of yellow lol * Pushed the hue shifting in the shadows so things look more vibrant * An exploded cube!

This was fun! The hard and legendary modes I particularly enjoyed. It was definitely a challenge but I really enjoyed trying to solve these problems in terms of fitting the shapes together.

These look solid!

Had to stop class for about a month for exam prep, but I'm back to continue learning!

I pushed the colors of the exploded cube too much, I think. Drew it at midnight and thought it was great but then I woke up...

I realize now that I only did the cubes ... I'll have to go back and do other shapes! :) I tried not to linger on the assignments too much. I have a big big habit of overworking things.

I finished this assignment faster and more confidently than the last. Thank you all for posting your work, it’s amazing and inspiring.

I took inspo from some of the other submissions in here. I'm still struggling to shade the donut but I think I'm getting the hang of it. I think I could've pushed the hue's a little more when shading but I feel like I'm good to move on to the next lesson.

Here are my submissions! The exploded cube almost exploded me, I couldn’t figure out how to make the perspective consistent and it took a few tries to figure it out. I’m having a bit of trouble shading orange because both sides are warm colors, if anyone has tips for that specifically I’d really appreciate it!

looks great to me!

A question about complimentary colors. For additive colors (like light) the complement of Red is Cyan, but for subtractive colors (like pigments) the complement of Red is Green. The provided color wheel agrees with the subtractive view but your demos involve additive colors. Is one preferred over the other?
