I tried drawing along... I feel super slow! But it is really motivating and fun. I think I still need to spend more time on the foundations, to improve the proportions, but overall I am really satisfied with how it turned out.
Melanie Scearce
Looks amazing! Don't feel pressured to go faster than you can think. Take your time and the speed will come with practice.

Drawings done for this lesson!
@viktro_mok
My drawing along. It was fun and I learnt a low. I'm drawing on a regular sketchbook paper so I didn't have the smoothness of newspapers. I used water-soluble graphite pencils to create similar effects.

HI Patrick! Thank you for the lesson. I am following along, trying not to get caught up in any mistake or whether I have the right tools exactly at this point in time. I also try not to pause the video hah! I struggle with the idea of the light touch of the gestural hand, my hand and muscles aren't used to it yet I guess! That's what a lot of years drawing with only detailed hand will do I guess.
Rachel Dawn Owens
Nice! You're right. Dexterity comes with time and practice. Keep it up and you will get there.

This is a fun course, I am really enjoying drawing along. you make it look very easy. I definitely need to soften my touch with the willow, it works fine for the warm-ups but I am struggling to draw with it. the attached have been mainly using compressed charcoal pencils which have created a dirty look instead of smokey.

Nice flow to the form of the left.

I wanted to see how it would turn out when drawn digitally and am actually pretty happy. Will redo this one traditionally soon
Rachel Dawn Owens
Really nice! I like the composition of this.

i enjoyed every bit of this draw-along. I’ll probably do this lesson again but a slower speed because I caught myself mimicking the strokes in order to keep up rather than doing the “art” of it. But, I’m still pleased with the result. It’s definitely not proportionally accurate but I enjoyed this gestural over structure approach.

Really nice work!

Great to see such great art here, guys! Thanks for your support of my teachings :)

Here is my drawing while I was following along, it was nice to see the work on the arms and hands before jumping into the full figure. I made it with graphite pencils on my sketchbook. I'm taking notes from comments you make throughout the videos as a reminder. Still a lot ahead to learn and I'm happy for it, already going through a daily thought process of learning and it's great. Thank you Patrick.

Very nicely done, HP!

Here is my follow-along. Pretty happy with it, especially liked the arm and hand demonstrations - the anatomy there is kind of crazy so looking forward to the following lessons to explain it in detail. I did it digitally, and it definitely felt a bit more limiting than what Patrick was showing - I really want to feel that charcoal on newspaper, the iPad screen felt very small and slippery, especially since I kept it all at fixed zoom level, compared to what looks like an A3 or A2 paper - I take these lessons after work in the office so charcoal or any messy materials aren't really an option. I also don't really have any experience with charcoal so a bit scared of it :) I don't think I've ever smudged this much in my life, that felt awesome, I didn't use undo at all - just smudged everything I didn't like and then drew over it, I did use the eraser a couple times for highlights since the smudging made the areas too dark. It all felt very natural and unconstrained, and I think the smudging added a lot to the values and shadow tones later on. Great lessons so far, thank you Patrick!
Patrick Jones
Nice work, Anton! Never worry about the surface getting messy it helps free up mark making while leaving values to work in and out of ;)

Here is my attempt to mimic great artist ))) I made it digitally. I like the result but i still don't understand how to keep drawing so light and soft and voluminous at same time. When i try to keep drawing light it becomes blurred and lose texture. And it is easy for me to make drawing too dark very quickly without adding much volume.
Patrick Jones
Very nice, bold style, Apolonster!

This is a strange course, so far. Topics and informations are thrown there,wildly, which is totally different from Stan's lessons that are very structured. But I like it too. Just seeing Patrick drawing live can make me learn stuff like a sponge. So I tried drawing a female figure from imagination, starting with very strong gesture lines, and trying to keep them alive. And well, I failed. In the end, adding anatomy on top made me lose the nice flows I had at the beginning, no matter what. I especially feel bad for the left shoulder which doesn't look right at all. I'll try again after watching more videos, and we'll see if my drawings can get more stylish and gestural.

Hurray for the wilder techniques!
Patrick Jones
This is great, Alexis! Yes, counter-balancing my wilder techniques with Stan's wonderful teachings will take you far!

I just started watching these and I'm glad I'm not the only one who was confused by the structure. I agree with David's reply to mattherbruck, below. I think this is sort of a draw-along and make multiple passes over the videos. As far as feedback, I think your drawings are nice and anatomy is good, I just think it's the proportions that are throwing it off. I have the same issue of connecting each body part at the correct scale to other parts, which is one reason I am taking this course. A suggestion that might help is to draw with a thinner line weight, and vary the weight to be thicker for areas that would be in shadow. I noticed that some your lines look pretty much the same thickness all around on the last 2 drawings.
@mattherbruck
There's a lot to keep track of in these first two courses. Between what he's saying and drawing and the reference changing or disappearing I'm never sure where I should be focusing
Patrick Jones
Hi Mattherbruck :) As David mentioned, going with the flow and not worrying too much about copying the reference too closely is how I came to find my fluid style. It's unorthodox but keep with it, multiple views will reap great rewards!
David Nygaard
From what I can tell, you should rewatch this when you are finished. This seems like one of those courses, where you can keep pulling stuff from it from several playthroughs and get miles better each time
