Here are my attempts for level 1 (first 4) and level 2 (the last one). Really enjoyed it a lot. I attempted level 2 after watching the first demo which is super helpful. The general process I adpoted is: 1. single action line to capture overall flow 2. simple shapes to capture the structure 3. analyse how can we make these shapes more dynamic and at the same time indicating the gesture (idea) 4. more details to further support the gesture

My level 2 attempts for hippo. Just can't help to draw more details.

Here is my attempt for this super fun project before watching the demo. Tried to study a bit more reference photo for each animal and did some level 2 practices only for the roosters (will do for other animals too on the other day). And the demo is super useful! Here are my main takeaways: 1. always be confident to your shapes, I found my drawings especially for hippos cares too much about "likeliness", but shapes focus on simplicity yet capturing the main characteristics, and are never about "likeliness". 2. use several simple shapes to construct complex shapes 3. use line weights to make the shape design look better, e.g. the eye socket should be lighter to the eye itself. 4. use small thumbnails to give a preview on your shapes.

Excellent sketches, and excellent takeaways! I love the roosters! For the next project be sure to rotate your images before uploading, and make sure to evenly light your work so we can see it in the best possible presentation. Keep up the good work!

Here is my attempt. I draw from observation with some simple objects on my desk. The upper two uses the importance method and the lower two uses the shadow and light method.

Here is my attempt for this project. It's about cats! But somehow don't know why it ends up like this, not cute at all...

hahaha i love this
Rachel Dawn Owens
Haha, these are cute to me. Don’t overthink it.
@wangkai
Here are my attempts for this project. Definitely had a hard time with the hand where the placements are so important, subtle adjustments can make big difference.
Martha Muniz
Nicely done! Great line tapers throughout.
@wangkai
Level 1 attempts, altough it's beyond my expectation at first. I found both drawing still didn't capture the idea of simplified forms and confident lines after watching the demo video. I was just following the contours without being contious about the underlying forms.
Melanie Scearce
The confident lines will develop with practice! You have a great point by identifying how you were thinking about the drawing while you were doing it. Next time, you can focus more on designing your c and s curves and straights to better interpret the underlying forms. Good luck! :)
Rachel Dawn Owens
It gets easier with practice. Just like any muscle in the body, your brain will develop as you practice conscious drawing. These are great. You understand the assignment and I like your sketchy lines.
