I do not have the overlay to compare proportions so I may need to acquire that for next time. Otherwise, it registers close enough to me based on the many comparative measurements made. Also, my picture capture quality is sub-par, will have to square it up better.

I like the end result of this sketch, but I will have to learn to have more fun with the approach. I had taken numerous measurements to get accurate primary, secondary, and tertiary shapes, however it is rather mind-dumbing haha. With more practice I presume it will become physically and mentally easier to develop these proportional framework sketches.

Well done, looks pretty much spot on when doing the overlay! I think you're gonna enjoy the perspective chapter. Combining these methods for measuring with perspective portrait drawing (as is one of the projects) helped speed up the process a lot!

Here is my second attempt for this assignment. This is a study from Claire Wendling and da Vinci. Both artists seem to place most emphasis on a Hierarchy of Importance in their sketches with a touch of lighting. I included both types of line weight in my sketches, but made effort to bump up the lighting weight.

This is very good. I wanna see more of your work.

I chose Leonardo Davinci's, "Two Horsemen Fighting a Dragon" sketch but was not able to make obvious sense of his line weight choices, therefore decided to invent a sense mainly of lighting, but also of depth and importance in areas. I had alternative options that pertained to line weight better, however many seemed challenging to tackle given the guy's mastery status.

I have experimental lines in here, but i still have a tendency of erasing some rough draft lines in attempt to be PERFECT. I think ghosting prior to experimental strokes will do good for my following sketches to carry more flow in form and not get caught up in the contours seen.

A constant battle to redirect my mind to representing the composition with simple line construct (CSI) and get an easily digestible representation of what is actually a complex reference image.
Thomas Nolan II
Certainly is tricky to tap into the mindset of representing shapes in simple geometry using C, S, I while maintaining likeness. It is a tactical game to fight against the urge to copy cat the nuance contours. KEEP IT SIMPLE.

I feel like you added so much expression to those boots. Great work!

These are beautiful sketchbook pages! Nice work

Asked for help
Already know i was too careful with my line work and need to free up the shoulder in creating sketched ellipses. I will need to loosen my grip with eraser and let the motion happen. However, fun to see the progression of shrooms populate the page.

Thinking of the drawing as a fella wielding a chainsaw at an ice block was a “cool” way of establishing edgy planes.

Nice process pics. The pear and the portrait both turned out great!

Had used graphite rather than charcoal and disregarded dark background, however i hope the rest of image is fairly similar.
