Again an assignment that forces me to move beyond my comfort zone. I was taught NOT to so aggressively outline my subject. At least not in a ‘realistic’ drawing. But after watching the demo, I hope that I was able to stay true to the lesson.

Nice! You nailed it.

Sketch from imagination. Boy, this has always been very difficult for me. In fact, learning to draw from imagination was why I decided to take this course. I did better than I thought, but it still looks like a third grader did it. 🤦‍♂️ I chose a sloth for my animal for the simplicity; didn’t want to get discouraged by doing something too beyond my range. I think I could have spent more time on the study sketches. First two are the studies and the third is the imagine sketch. Really tried to push it with the reclining pose. Don’t know if it quite worked though. Overall, decently happy with it. But more work is needed.

Sketch from observation project. The penguin was a challenge as I feel like I wasn’t getting it. I keep fighting myself to not move past the project assignment. I have to keep telling myself to keep it simple. Hands were better, but the robot girl I think that I was too aggressive with my lines.

Really nice work! Great job tackling these a few times each. You can see your line quality, and shapes improving with each attempt, keep it up!

C S I project. Didn’t find it too difficult…except for the damn bootlaces. 😂

This one was a bit of a struggle as I was fighting with myself to get a decent likeness. Left one was done before I watched the demo. Wasn’t very happy with it. The right one was done several months later; I don’t think that the values are as defined as they should be.

It may help to decide which areas will be mostly dark values and which areas will be mostly light values and design large general shapes to represent that starting out. Beginning very simply and working to more complex shapes can help keep your values organized.

The pear project. First one was trying to see in terms of the planes, but decided that it was making things more complicated than it needed to be. So I did the three examples more in line with the demo. I decided to use different tones of pencils to help make the value shifts more noticeable. I usually just render with one grade of pencil.

I wish my work looked as good as yours!! I love it!!

Nice job, I can definetly see the evolution per drawing! ദ്ദി(˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧ Thanks to your notes I have a new idea how to use my pencils for shade order, thankyou

Very nice job with this assignment. You were on the right track with the planes of the pear. It does help to think in terms of planes when organizing values. You should keep it very simple and clean. Don't worry so much about the shape of the plane. Rather, use a simple wireframe made of rectangles and try to match the angle. It's a great exercise in simplification. The planes that are facing more directly towards the light source will be lighter in value and the more they turn away the darker in value they will be.
