This is my first attempt. I found this really difficult to simplify the animals into shapes in my head. I think I had too much focus on accuracy of proportions which made me very hesitant. I am going to review some of the other submissions and then do some more drawings!

Looks like you’re getting it with the hippo!

Focused on drawing Goku & Bulma in this master study. I love Akira Toriyama’s art style from the beginning half of his career where he drew using more of a caricature style. The reference image is from an anthology collection of Toriyama’s artwork through the Dragon Ball series. Link to book: https://a.co/d/dZnt2WJ

I love Dragonball! This is an awesome study. Akira Toriyama is a great one to study!

Here’s my rhino!

good exercises! Trace the ruler was especially helpful by providing the immediate feedback. I can see how these would be good daily’s to improve line confidence & quality.

The penguin was the hardest one for me in this section. I had difficulty with the proportions- I probably drew and re-drew about 30 times. The spider hand started out "off" initially, so I re-drew it below, which turned out better. For the VR girl, I slowed down and paid attention to the angles and rhythms. These are good challenges, and I'm definitely noticing improvements in studying Stan's teachings. Also, I don't know what type of penguin the picture was but it looked like a yellow-eyed penguin to me :D

Looking good! Confident linework and nice proportions, your hard work paid off :) I think one of the key takeaways for this assignment is finding relationships between the lines that help out with sketching -- like in the VR girl where you have her torso following through behind her hand. I think it's what makes the 2nd hand more successful, as the guidelines for the palm give it more cohesion overall. Another guideline you could try is one that flows from the top of the arm on the left, down all the way to the index finger -- this captures the flow and 'big idea' of the drawing, which helps lay in a strong foundation before going into details. Hope this helps, and keep up the good work!

These my attempts. I really struggled with the hand =( What do u think guys?? I need comments to improve!! Ty
@sirmightymike
I think your hand looks really good! The foreshortening is really tricky to get, though. I think the reason it looks off to you is that your index finger isn't long enough. You have it stopping before the pinky finger (horizontally) when it should extend out a little further to match the length at the bottom. Erase and extend it out a little bit I think you'll be amazed, you nailed everything else!

First attempt was trying to get to my lines down with more confidence think changing to a coloured pencil made it much more relaxing to do. any critique would be appreciated before I do them again :D
@sirmightymike
I really like your drawings! I think your penguin body is a little compressed compared to the picture. I would look at the angles in the VR girl. You have her head and glasses tilted at different angles, and you drew her mouth in the shape of a sideways teardrop instead of a triangle. Your spider hand looks phenomenal, though. I personally also really like your penguin and the proportions you drew instead.

Good lesson to just keep drawing instead of erasing (which I am terrible at). Didn't erase any lines and just drew more lines as recommended. On the other hand my penguin was a lesson in not drawing too big of a head if you want to be able to fit the feet.
@sirmightymike
I feel you on the penguin! I drew it about 30 times and had such a hard time getting the proportions right. I like how yours turned out though- I think you nailed the upper body and face really well!
@sirmightymike
Very happy with how these turned out! I definitely have noticed an improvement in my line confidence and proportions.

Proportion at the skull, in rest the camel looks goody😃😃😁
@sirmightymike
I focused on using the CSI framework to get the major shapes and contours of the actual boot. I started with the S curve shapes at the top front of each boot. I drew the left one first and I felt that it warmed me up to draw the right one better. Overall, I'm happy with how it turned out!
