Hi All, Some of the drawings I have admired most have been from by Atelier Bow-Wow, known for their detailed section perspectives. I appreciate their ability to clearly capture both the quality of space and the architectural information needed to actually construct the space in a single illustration. Other artists that have inspired me recently include Hasui Kawase, Randolph Schwabe, and Hector Lopez. The examples chosen are meant to convey some of the different ways of visualizing architecture that I want to better in my own work. My primary goal for this course is to advance my ability to capture architecture on a page. I am not necessarily interested as much in thorough renderings but instead to focus on composition and to strengthen my freehand illustration skills. I think I would benefit from better understanding how to use line and tone - as well as the absence of - to get my ideas onto paper.

Atelier Bow-Wow's house illustrations are excellent.

My penguin! All and any feedback welcome, what should I be doing differently?

This is assignment is more about linework and energy than accurately copying contour. If you were to do this again, I'd lay down some light lines that try to find the forms and once you've got the rough forms, refine them and add more detail. Think of it like a sculpture. You get the larger rough mass then gradually refine to more and more kinds of detail. Imagine drawing the same image over and over, but starting with blurred to catch the larger forms, then more and more in focus to refine.

Spider hand, really enjoying the looseness of this exercise. The hand and especially the width of the hand looks a bit off proportionally to me. Thank you for any and all feedback!

The lvl 1 boots assignment. I layed in the outlines with blue pencil before the final contour drawing. The extra time in layout seemed to help quite a bit. All and any feedback is welcome!

My first attempt at the snail. I think I'm still a bit scratchy and will work on keeping my lines more continuous and distinct for the next exercises.

I also attempted the intermediate drawing. My first portrait drawing. I found getting the drawing started and establishing proportions quite challenging. Overall, I'm pleasantly surprised with the drawing though I know there is a lot of room for improvement. Any and all feedback is welcomed.

This is your first portrait? Congrats, it's good! Values work nicely and the edges are sharp. As for proportions, I think you've measured a lot of it right, like getting the top of the ear at the same level with the eyebrows, and bottom of the nose at the level of the bottom of the ear, and from hairline to brow > to the bottom of the nose > to the chin the distance seems quite equal in each. The tip of his nose is drooping, though, and I would widen the plain between his ear and the eye so it would look less like his eyes are at the edges of his face. But that's just my observation, and I think you've solved most problems with proportions really well. Nice work, now to drawing another one! 😊

Did the exercise but didn't take the opportunity to print. I looked at the pear image on my screen. Lesson learned. My values, especially at the bottom of the pear were too dark and I didn't pick up the third value in the large shadow to the left. :-( Really enjoyed the exercise, however.

Nice simplification!

My level 1 pear. I think I need to work on my simplification and my shadows feel off.

I think it’s good!!! Well done
