Day 1 of 14 it’s been almost a year since I’ve drawn anything proper and boy it feels like it!

Harder than I thought it would be! Definitely want to keep doing this. I struggled with applying pressure at the right spots or at all really.

from left to right, first attempt and then second after watching demo. I think the second attempt had better shading but I think I missed some important interesting shapes.
I think this is great, in your 2nd attempt the shapes and values are so clear and contrast well, the highlights really stand out as well. I worry I'm missing out on some of the interesting shapes too, but I think a good way to test that is to look at your drawing next to the reference and squint at them to see if the chunky value shapes match up, hope that is of some help!

Here's a second effort at the boxes but I definitely think I need some help. Please let me know how I can improve!
Try Drawing through your structures so you can see the entire wire frame (all edges of the planes). For your boxes, break it down to a single flat plane, and just try rotating it like a piece of paper in space. Your lines should feel like they are slightly converging towards a point in the far distance. if you notice the far end of the plane/paper is diverging (getting bigger rather than smaller) than try again, and keep in mind where your intended vanishing point is, and subtly converge the lines toward that point. Sometimes it helps to exaggerate the converging perspective to get the point across to your brain.
Sometimes it just won't look right and that's okay. I found it to just do multiple iterations on the same angle you are having trouble with rather than trying to fix the broken lines. It's going to take a couple of tries for your mind to get a grip on where things should be placed. So keep at it, I can see you getting the hang of it.

Took some advice received from yesterday to reduce sketchiness and line count. Is there anything else I should focus on improving? Two lessons into the gesture course so far.

First time drawing in a while and having a hard time thinking through the 30s quick sketches. Not sure if it’s supposed to look more fleshed out or not. I’m trying to think of the line of action going from the head to the toe. Let me know if there’s anything you can see that I should focus on to improve. Thank you!

Nice! 30s is very difficult so getting that line of action like you're doing is great. Indicating the angles of the shoulders and hips and a couple of rhythm lines for the legs is about all we can do in 30 seconds unusually. You're doing good. Try to focus on the line quality and avoid making too many marks in one area (sketchy look) because it kills the flow feeling of the gestures. Also separate out your figures from one another a bit more so we can see them better. Keep them coming!
In 30sec poses you don't need to draw the complete gesture of the pose.
Just draw main idea of the pose
It well help you later when you will draw a complete figure. And you will be able focus on the most dominating part of the pose.
