Hello! Trying my hand at drawing while I started attending a oil painting class. I wanted to practicing while going to university and work, so I got myself a toned sketchbook and i love it! Here is my first attempt, I had to switch around the values and use a white pastel for the highlights. I might try again using the normal values without the white highlights

Toned paper is the best, and your drawings looks awesome! The only thing I could say is that the 2nd pear is missing a little bit of shadow below it, but since you did it better on the 3rd one I guess you already know it! :)

Hey :) This one was a real challenge for me but i just want to post my progress on the boots. Did a real quick review of the demo yesterday so i got to think how i would approach this while working. Really happy with the second pair of boots if i dont count the shoelaces.

The second pair looks better, definitely. I bet if you did it a third time it would be even better! (And I see a missing line on the left boot heel 🙊)

my second attempt. Definetly need to practise shading and allocating space ;-)

I'd try to darken a little bit the light side to increase the contrast between that and the highlight :)

Hello fellow artists! My shot on the lvl 1 exercise, the laces were pretty confusing. ONward to lvl 2!

Laces are the worst haha, but looks really good! :)

Hello! I'm new to this Drawing Basics course and I just finished my first assignment! Would love critique and advice. I did two attempts. Which one is closer? Any improvements?

I would darken the shadows (at least on the pear) a bit more for more contrast, but otherwise it's pretty good! :D

I made these with references, any critiques? 😊

The gesture on the seal at the bottom on the second page looks great!

It makes me feel better to see Stan "struggling" a little. Drawing the Musketeer was so much harder than I thought. I even had to label the meassurements on the paper like "Tip of the nose" "Chin" "tearduct", etc because i kept mistaking them. I'm also not used to draw on a A3 sheet. But I really feel out of my comfort zone, I see I have a long way to go, but now I know the road!

Does anybody else feel too tired to draw after all day of working and doing things? I wanna draw, pick up my sketchbook and pencil and get to it, but I just stare at the blank page and put the sketchbook away 😓 Also is like I don't feel ready to deal with frustration 😪

That's hard and I think pretty much everyone here has felt it, for sure. If you're in a place with that where you want suggestions for solutions, try starting your drawing session with an easy win. Draw something that has no rules but that you like drawing. Like how the Swordtember drawing challenge worked. There's no anatomy to worry about and some wonky lines are totally okay! And WHATEVER YOU DO, don't make yourself have to draw your greatest thing ever when you do sit down and feel like drawing., Those of us who can't find the inspiration to really draw something can do that to ourselves and out too much pressure on it. Make it a habit to draw a little and that stacks over time :D Good luck with finding your way to drawing more often!

Hi! :D First time submitting something! I used a few references for each one but i'm sharing the ones i used the most. I hope the pictures have enough quality! :)
