The snail felt very unsatisfying, I felt at a loss of what to do but I guess I did it right.
@tpinedo93
I am not sure if this was your first or second attempt but I would say map out the snail lightly on your paper. Get the proportions right first and like stan said, for the shell drawing a "container" or a box where the whole shell would be. Then map out the body using straight lines and angles. Do this all lightly. Look back at your image and see if its close. Once you feel like the proportions are right, use the CSI lines to sketch out your snail. I hope this helps!

I think my drawings pre demo were trying to make it more complex than it needed to be. Falling for the trap of "it's gonna have detail otherwise is not good". I also found myself erasing waaay to much, even the construction lines just to give me an idea of the placement of the shapes. I tried to be more aware of all these after watching the demo. I was trying to be more aware of less is more when it comes to simplifying the subject - the second snail seems a bit more messy but I got it done much quicker than the first attempt. I don't think it is necessarily a "rushed" attempt I wanted to give it a go to the camel while taking into account everything I learned from the demos. I think I got away with it, the proportion of the head is definitely off but I am happy with it.
@tpinedo93
I think the camel looks good!

I had fun with this warm up. I can feel my hands getting looser as I draw the ellipses. Ghosting it before drawing it helps a lot, and going a littler slower than stan helps me as I am new with this.

Attempt 1 is the left image. I did it before watching the tutorial and critique videos. Attempt 2 is the right image and I did after watching the tutorial and critique videos. This exercise was hard but it was fun to do! I took my time on the second attempt :D
@tabz
Very much a beginner. I've never really drawn a portrait before, but thought I'd attempt the Level 2 assignment. Before and after watching the demo.
@tpinedo93
Proportions are better on the second attempt! great job on progress! :D

Pear 1 and Pear 2. Pear 2 drawn after the demo 😀 Stoked it actually looks like a pear, very excited to draw more in the this course.
@tpinedo93
This is well done! I can see the values easily :D

For anyone thinking about skipping this lesson because it is super long and you're way too late to make it into the review video: DON'T I was going to skip it but decided to give it a go, then it was over in a blink of an eye. There is SO much good information here. There is a lot of common mistakes I was able to spot on my own drawing based on the feedback Stan is giving to the others. Anyhow, WATCH IT. Seriously, it really gets your brain into problem solving mode and some things I was struggling with start to make sense.

I couldn't agree more with you J M. I watched this in two parts in two days and I took notes. I saw common mistakes that I did and some mistakes that other people that would allow me to be aware of what not to do. Stan gave great advice and critiques that I was able to look at my second attempt and look what the mistakes I made so when I do the third attempt, it will be better!
@tpinedo93
Left image: my first attempt before watch Stan video on how he drew the pear. Right image: 2nd attempt after watching his video and taking notes. A mistake I made was when I was shading large areas, I was using the side of the pencil which cause the some parts to look grainy. I am currently watching his critique video and will do a third attempt. Feedback and constructive criticism are welcome please! :)
