After attempting on practicing depth and form on the shoes, I tried practicing depth and form on women heels. This was a little tough for me to get it to feel there is depth and form. Feedback is always welcome! :)
Hey Basics students. I'm quite sick, probably flu, so the next lesson is a bit delayed. If you're looking for something to do, I would recommend researching some old master painters and illustrators and doing 3-value studies.
I was going to announce it with the next lesson, but it'll be useful now, so please check out:

It's essentially the gradient map tool in Photoshop but made much more convenient and some additional features. It's something I hacked together in a day so apologies if there are any bugs. I'll have my dev team remake it professionally later.
Let me know your thoughts.

Here is my attempt on drawing the shoes using depth and form. By far the hardest exercise for me right now. I had to think about the sketching, the proportions and the line weight. I got discouraged a bit in the beginning because I wanted it to come out right. I was out of my comfort zone and stuck it through! I am glad that I did my attempt. Let me know what you guys think! :)

Chose these high heels to draw, definitely struggled with making my light lines light enough and how much lighter to make the front shoe vs the back shoe.

Left: before demo
Right: after watching demo light and shadow.
By far the hardest exercise to me compared to the hierarchy of importance. I watched stan demo twice to understand how he is choose his line width and saturation. I tried my best on the second attempt, something just feels off to me, what do you guys think? feedback is always welcome! :)

Here is my before and after. In my opinion i made a big improvement. I made it darker and thicker at the feet to give it more weight and made the horn darker to show it as a more significant part of the image. Also i might have pressed too hard with the pencil i'm not sure. It's a 6B I used in the after.
Before: After:
Left: 1st attempt before watching demo. (Hierarchy of importance exercise.)
Right: 2nd attempt post demo.
I loved this exercise because:
1. it switched up the learning from sketching to now only worrying about linework to practice.
2. Seeing the difference before and after watching the demo. After writing down some notes, I returned to the drawing and did it again. I can see the difference and its amazing how much I learned from this single exercise.
Feedback is a welcome :)
