I had time to finish a second entry! This is from Little Women as well: "The garden had to be put in order, and and each sister had a quarter of the little plot to do what she liked with. Hannah used to say, "I'd know which each of them gardings belonged to, ef I see 'em in Chiny"..."(Little Women, Chapter 10) and so it goes on to describe each the gardens and what each girl planted. I stayed true to each one, but my focus on this, apart from Hannah and the sunlight, was Jo's sunflowers. If you look really closely, you may even see Aunt Cockletop and the chicks! I took a picture of this with my phone rather than scanning it, and my lighting is rather poor, as it's after dark. Hopefully all the details are still visible. Thanks again for this challenge!

Hello! I decided to use this opportunity to illustrate a scene from Little Women. "Jo's only answer was to hold her mother close, and, in the silence that followed, the sincerest prayer she had ever prayed left her heart, without words; for in that sad, yet happy hour, she had learned not only the bitterness of remorse and despair, but the sweetness of self-denial and self-control, and, led by her mother's hand, she had drawn nearer to the Friend who welcomes every child with a love stronger than that of any father, tenderer than that of any mother." - Little Women, Chapter 8. I learned a great deal from this, and allowed myself to go outside of my comfort zone and actually flick paint around. This was done entirely with gouache and acrylic. Thank you for the opportunity!

Nice it looks like it could be in a children's book.

The Dollhouse is an original story written and illustrated by me! It's about a little girl and her relationship with her father. It starts in 1803 and ends in roughly 1821. You can see how I used the theme of a dollhouse throughout the illustrations. The dollhouse I designed is based on original ones of the period and an actual house the existed in the time period in the state of New York! The Georgian/Regency period was really interesting to research. While I was rushed near the end, I truly enjoyed the planning process! I hope you enjoy reading it. 😊

That was a cool sweet story to fit into 3 pages.

Hello! I chose to do the cover of the second book of the Trixie Belden series, The Red Trailer Mystery. It was first published in 1950, but my favourite cover was the editions republished in the 60s, called cameo editions because of the cameos of Trixie in the upper left corner. Mary Stevens did the original interior illustrations, so I included her along with the author on the cover. Trixie Belden books are also published under the name Kathryn Kenny, but Julie Campbell wrote the first 6 books. I chose colours based on the first cameo edition, as they're some of the first colours I think of when I think of Trixie Belden. I always feel a part of the Bob Whites when reading these books. They make you feel at home. I chose to illustrate Trixie and Honey spotting the orchard that's a part of the Smith farm. The Smith Farm and their old apple orchard are very important to the solving of the mystery! I hope you enjoy my cover! It was such a wonderful learning experience, perfect for where I'm at in my journey as an artist. This is completely traditional by the way!
