Let’s move from line drawings to adding light and shadow by viewing the head's features as basic forms: boxes, cylinders, and spheres. Each form has a corresponding edge quality—soft for spheres, firm for cylinders, and hard for boxes. By linking these edges with light and shadow, we create a more natural and realistic look. The key is to map core shadows and edges, then replace lines with edges to guide the viewer's eye, enhancing depth and realism.

I just finish this course and it was incredible! I learned a lot and the video instructions are clear. It is worth the price.

This month I spend some time on practicing head construction and shading. This 11-step method is so efficient that I can even finish head drawings. This lesson let me understand better about shading. Here is a drawing according bonus lesson. Thank you very much, Mr. Hampton!

I would like to thank Michael Hampton on his excellent instructions. I know that I still have much to learn, but before this class I could have never drawn this portrait.

Just wanted to share my latest light and shadow drawing I haven’t really dealt with midtones yet but I got close too matching the form with this one except the neck. I will keep practicing, one thing that has been tripping me up is expressions especially this hinging of the jaw and trying add asymmetry along with it

Great lesson. Took my drawing from the Fully Constructing a Head from Scratch lesson and followed along.
Thanks Michael, do you have any new courses in the pipeline? In the meantime I will contruct more heads and also return to the figure contruction course.
