I heavily simplified the already simplified Lego version of EVE. Definitely need to work on portions and vanishing points but I enjoyed the process of trying to move the object only in my mind’s eye. I will definitely continue with the exercise. I found it a bit meditative.

not moving the paper to align with my preferred angle felt a bit like learning to draw with my non dominant hand.

Week 3 submission. Still a lot of progress to be made but I’m start to have fun with gesture drawing (instead of it feeling like a chore).

Week 2 submission. The good news was that I finished these 12 and wanted to do more. The bad news is that these 12 felt so stiff and often imbalanced. Any feedback is welcomed
Don’t know if it will help but I always look at other peoples submissions and copy the ones I think really work asking myself why the choose the lines they did. Often the stiffness seems to come from too much focus on outside contour lines and not understanding and putting down those internal lines that we don’t always see in the image but communicate the direction of the forms. Hope maybe that makes some sense?

Here are my week 1 submissions. I find these quick figure drawings difficult as I always want to spend too much time analyzing. Enjoying the challenge and the reminder to turn off the brain and see the gesture.

I’m going to keep working on this but I figured I would upload before the assignment was due. Marshall wasn’t kidding about the need to remove distractions and push through frustration. Overall, I found it quite challenging but fun. I also learned that it is hard to eyeball measurements and it is less frustrating to take the time to properly measure. I love how changing line weight or erasing/adding a line completely changes the illusion. Looking forward to exploring more.
