I feel like I still need to do 100 of these before things start clicking. Really helpful to see others' work, I think it'll make my next attempts a bit less like "drawing in the dark".

I chose this Delacroix lion because I love the way he makes a bunch of scribbles look like fur. It turned out to be not the best choice for what I most need to practice, which is long flowy lines. The short strokes threw me back into old chicken scratch finger-not-shoulder habits. But after trying to copy his strokes, I came to a whole new appreciation of how precisely spaced and valued they are - and precise without being stiff! So it turned out to be a good choice after all.

While googling samples, I found this Delacroix copy of a Rembrandt! Any benefits to studying a master's study of a master? ;)

Too late for the video critique deadline, but that's okay. I did a level 1 trace rhino (hierarchy of importance) and a level 2 rhino (shadows and light direction) with the light source coming from the top left corner, also had some fun with a bouquet of tulips around the house.

Missed deadline, but here are my rhinos, and a Sharpei (lots of lines)

As an experienced chicken scratcher, this was difficult for me - wobbly lines everywhere. I took a detour to practice drawing smooth lines, and what helped most was tracing over photos of seated Buddhas. Lots of flowy curves to follow, and while I started out wobbly, by the fifth try I could feel smoothness starting to happen. It's still very new, but gratifying to feel progress!
Boots and snail 1 are before Buddha-practice. Snail 2 and skull are after Buddha-practice.
