It is good to know new way of drawing faces. Although it took extra time to do it at my skill level, I could see that it would be very useful when I wanted good liking (accurate placing of the features) of the face of the person.

I am horning my eyes for the details. Perhaps my initial drawing was incorrect, because my changes have created new problems. I did not think that the basics had such an impact. It was difficult to paint reflected light. I did not do well. If there is anything that I should be more aware of, I would appreciate your advice.

Wishing everyone A Happy New Year! This painting was difficult than painting an old man. Particularly transition from shadow to light. Need more painting practice. Thank you for the good teaching though. Because the area where it was not dried did not show well in photo, I attached an angled shot as well. If you see any areas where I should be careful of, I would appreciate it if you could let me know. Thank you.

Good job! just try to keep your values simple in the shadow family and keep them together in a tighter group of values. I quickly pulled them together here in the attachment. I also worked the edges a little more.

Done up to start putting more colors to the skin.

I enjoyed practicing for edges using my finger. I wished I had a better surface. I used a canvas pad. It sucked the paint so fast and not much paint left for rubbing. But I did my best. Putting down a half tone was difficult process. I was amazed to watch how you painted. I am learning a lot. Thank you.

Ahh... I will get better...

This makes me very happy to see you reapply your focus and pay attention to the specifics of what was in front of you. great job!

I did a small study using your painting as a reference. When I first put down average-shadow-gray, it looked too dark, so I mixed more white to lighten up. Then when I started to put down light family colors, the light colors looked very dark. I should not have changed the average shadow value.

I did Cloudy Day first as it was cloudy when I painted (although I was indoor.) Then I tried to differentiate Sunny Day from it. Not sure if it worked.
Morgan Weistling
it's easy to see if you did it right by looking at the point where the shadow and light meet.Your cloudy has the same amount of contrast as the sunny one. You could go a value darker or more on the cloudy one and let the average and highlight follow it down.

Here are my mirror drawings. I used a ruler to draw guidelines and a tool (that I don’t know the name of) to measure from the center or edge lines. I learned that for the area very complicated and where I struggled, if I try to see it as an abstract shape, it helped me to define a form a little better. I will need more experience to have that point of view in practice.
Morgan Weistling
That's great! You now know the goal :train your yourself to see abstractly when drawing.
