This assignment was challenging in a great way. I really had to sit and think about what it was that I observed. I am happy with how my first portrait turned out. There is a lot of room for growth. I am going to go back and try this again Using more shapes

An image of a koala bear that I found online. I really enjoyed creating the shape for the hands and simplifying them and not being worried about the nails. Its ears were a little more difficult to capture all the fur on them but I went back to our lesson online and how we can use tapered and faint lines for things that aren’t as important in the photo.

Nice work, and good approach to simplifying the fur as it can appear a difficult and complex area to capture. Something to note is that it can help to draw through the entire shape, like simplifying the entire head mass to a single circle. Focus on the major shapes for now, so no need to worry over lines for details like the inner ears or the fold of the arm. If something is overlapping enough to make a difference worth noting, consider making them separate shapes instead, like the foot over the leg or the ear over the head. Hope this helps :)
