I really struggle drawing proportional faces. I think the issue is that I haven't studied the skull very well. Any tips on getting better?
@sparrowsky
Tried drawing a profile, and used the smudge tool as some of you recommended. What do you think of this?

It's pretty! The accuracy of the drawing is great. If you try and use more redish hues instead of yellowish for the skintone it will be more accurate to your reference. Also, you're using desaturated greys for the shadows. If you use more saturated colors such as dark orange for a place like under her jaw it will also help as shadows usually aren't so grey if there is bounce light. If you just color pick the darker areas you will see what I mean. In the reference, it looks like overcast so there's no direct sunlight and therefore no sharper shadows. They will be softer. Again, great job!

Even in the second try, I couldn’t get the right angle of spine’s gesture line. I focused too much on head proportion, and forgot about the angle of gesture line.

Alright, here you go. I've written in capital letters just so you can understand what I've written in some areas. Also, I did also want to mention that you should be cleaner with your lines. In the images you sent, I see very sketchy lines. I don't think there's any benefit to doing that. It just makes your drawings look a little messy. Clean lines are especially useful when you're constructing shapes as I have done in the image below. Make confident strokes. It's totally fine if they're not what you want. Just get rid of them and try again. If you're confused with anything I said, feel free to ask. Good luck and don't give up! :)

My back muscle drawings seem to be making much more sense now. Thank you Proko!

Egg values study for lesson on shading light and form basics. This assignment is way harder to do than it might seem at first read, it can scramble your brain!

Hi! This is a great start! I've created a little document for you and I think it will help you in making it even better! Good luck! :)

Why does Proko's drawing of Kristian look like Frankenstein?

Lol there you go, Kristian!

Kia, I absolutely loved this one haha. I've been showing everyone I know your drawing of me. I feel like it accurately captures exactly what I look like when I take my shirt off. In terms of a critique, what I'd start with is simplifying your drawing a little bit. Right now it feels very flat, and stiff. I believe that's because there isn't any gesture in the post. In the draw overs below, you can see how I might've done this drawing. I did an initial gesture from the pit of the neck to the groin, then used those lines to add a rib cage (structure) which adds some three dimensionality. If you try doing another drawing, I'll be sure to do more draw overs! Hope this helps!

lol where did you find the image? I don't know where to look, haha

Hi Stan! What will happen to the Facebook Anatomy and Gesture group now that we have this site? Do you think the majority will migrate from there to here? Facebook had problems whenever anyone was posting their work because it was flagged as nudity when all they wanted was critique on their anatomy. When posting images for critique on Proko 2.0 will we have to censor our drawings and the reference? Thanks!
Bradwynn Jones
great question. I hope not
@davioli1
Here are my second set of gesture poses. I was told to use less contour, less lines, and the addition of more straight lines for the more stiff poses. please let me know what any of you think. Any sort or critique is very appreciated. Thanks!

These are really good and look really rhythmic. Great job. I do want to point out that in the last drawing, they look like they're about to fall over. Especially because it looks like they're leaning backward. However, I think that it also makes sense if that was intentional because it looks like they're balancing on one foot and using the stick to aid them in standing. Also, this will get better over time once you keep drawing gestural figures but there are some proportional issues. For instance, on the first drawing, the leg that's jutting out looks way too long. Then on the 4th drawing, her shoulders look too far apart. It's completely fine if you were trying to exaggerate them though. Maybe it will help if you show more constructional forms like the ribcage and pelvis. I also feel like you could do these same poses in fewer lines than depicted here. It makes it a lot clearer to see the position of the pose if you do that. Like for example in the 6th image I can see you're going over some lines you already drew. I'd say when you do these drawings again and you feel like a stroke isn't right, undo it and then confidently do the arc again. I noticed in some of the drawings, the feet look rushed and you can't see what's really going on. I drew some of the same poses for you in my way. I tried my best to exaggerate and add a little more construction. I don't know what your references were but I hope my drawings can help you! Good luck! :)
