My attempt at portrait, pre-watching the demo! I would really appreciate any feedback!

It looks very well done with a lot of detail. I think some Values need to be darker, especially the eye on the right and maybe some hair. Well done <3

My attempt at the 2nd pear - this is after watching the demo and the critique video. I found both very useful, especially the critique video where I could identify a lot of mistakes I’ve made the first time! Would love to get feedback on the below! 😊

First try before seeing demo, and another try after demo. Not feeling very confident. The awful critic in my head won’t shut up.

I really like it, especially your shadows on the pear after the demo, I feel like they’re really popping! I think you should feel more confident cause this is definitely a great first attempt 😊

I feel like I’m still quite an art beginner in a sense that Ive always avoided learning about fundamentals and it’s really holding me back - I aim to improve on that by taking part in this course :) here’s my “play” page - I’ve only just got more pencils other than the standard HB so really looking forward to test them in the upcoming assignments!

I've been drawing on and off since i was a kid, always self-teaching and just flying by the seat of my pants, and never really got any proper instruction, which really bogged down my passion for art by not being able to execute on ideas, or at least not without spending a ridiculous amount of time on it self-correcting mistakes i just don't seem to know how not to make in the first place. I'm 26 now, and feel like I've built a lot of bad habits by never really practicing basic fundamentals, so I'm starting from scratch with this course. Going through my supplies, I picked a cheap A3 sketchbook and I'll probably stick with the Arteza Graphite Pencils, because my fancier stuff doesn't work well on the cheaper paper, and I don't want to be precious about supplies when I'm supposed to just be learning. Starting the pear assignment tomorrow, wish me luck!

I’m in a very similar place as you as well! Good luck with the course :)

My first pear attempt vs. following along with Stan’s demo - I feel like I’ve learned a lot, I definitely didn’t simplify enough at the beginning. Looking forward to watching the pear critique video and attempting the remaining pears :)

Nice job BTW

I had similar results in my before and after pear. After watching the demo I was able to get a better sense of what to do. Going to give it a third try tomorrow maybe with a fruit of my own 🙂. Then I am going to try the face
@caprissa
Hi! This is my first attempt at simplifying the pear, before watching the demo - I’ll post one after the demo as well but in the meantime would be amazing to hear any and all feedback :)

This is amazing!!

I'm still quite a beginner at drawing and I feel like I have no idea what I’m doing haha but I wanted to try to approach this challenge digitally - i used a different approach than usually, trying to focus more on shapes than the outline. I wanted to spend an hour on this but ended up going way overtime, around 3h. Any tips and feedback would be greatly appreciated :)

Hi! Last week I started practicing gesture drawings daily. The below are from my practice today, 1 min per pose. I would greatly appreciate any feedback - thanks a lot in advance! :)

These look quite good. Some look a bit stiff on the last page but I'm guessing those were your warmups. I see some of the same mistakes I have made from in the past, such as drawing lines to indicate the direction of the legs and arms before drawing a contour around the shapes. I think that what helped me improve in that regard was to focus on the rhythm as a whole instead of trying to make construction lines to indicate direction. I have seen other artists use very blunt drawing tools such as a brush or marker to force them to draw the gesture and not to focus on reproducing the lines and what you see in the reference too much. When you see it like this, the whole limb becomes an 'I', 'S', or 'C' shape. Reduce everything to those 3 shapes.
