Had some mistakes that derailed some things like the neck/shoulder form and the eyes. My question is: what do I do about it? Try again from scratch? Fix those issues only? Take the lesson and try a different portrait?

@azormx
Definitely got more distracted than expected from the clothes in my 5 min sketches lol
@azormx
I forgot to post this yesterday, so I hope it isn't too late!
@azormx
I feel like I did better today. Maybe I’m just better drawing female poses! Anyway, 5x5 sketches
@azormx
Did 5 5minute sketches. I think they came out really bad so I hope it picks up in the coming days

For tip #5: Rotating the paper, is rotating the paper a valid long term strategy? Or would it be better in the long run to practice the "awkward angles" so that they're as good as my normal angles?
Josh Fiddler
There will come a day where you cannot rotate the "paper" because it might be a wall or a canvas or other object not given to easy rotation. But no need to go nuts. Rotate the page now, and once your quality and speed is up to snuff, the technique is right, then practice the odd angles but still don't go crazy. You'll be able to rotate the paper for a while yet, and iPads, and drawing tablets all do touch now so there's still a good reason to rotate the page. I say wait to practice it because killing bad habits is way harder than learning good ones right away. A bonus of rotating the paper is that it kinda divorces you from the subject so you get used to seeing it from different points of view, which can help reveal imbalances and flat or stiff work.

Its my opinion but I feel that for drawing most medium will allow you to rotate the "paper"

The more I drew an ostrich, the more it felt like drawing chocobos. I’m happy I managed to get the sketch I imagined out of my head(2nd pic), then just went wild!

Went back to restudy the ostrich and try to understand it more. I feel like my last attempts were too simple and I was missing some features of the ostrich. Still trying to figure out how to show the feathers without having to draw all of them
@azormx
I had done this before on pencil, but I am trying to get used to digital. I feel like some of the details on the hand are messing with the tilt of the hand like the middle finger nail. Also, I don't think the penguin looks angry enough

Level 1 warm up sketches on the iPad. Hands still always give me trouble, but trying to focus on the line quality.

Which tools are you using on the iPad to make it look like real paper?
