Day 1 - Classic Layins - 12 Days of Proko
1yr
THE CHALLENGE:
Do 25-minute full-page layins, focusing on the elegance and balance of classic poses. These layins are really effective for developing skills in proportion, gesture, structure, anatomy, and shape design. The time limit makes you focus on the basic stuff instead of getting caught up in details. It's not about finishing drawings fast; it's about getting good at starting a drawing by practicing several starts in one session. This helps you get better at the initial setup phase for more detailed work.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Go to https://proko.com/timer, select the Day 1 reference pack, choose the quantity and duration in the right sidebar, and start the session!
When you’re done, share your full-page layins by replying here in this thread for a chance to win some prizes.
PRIZES:
3 Figure Fundamental Courses
5 Proko Model Packs
1 Small Wacom Intuos Wireless Tablet
LIVESTREAM:
I'll be doing a livestream today at 11am PST. Come hang out and draw with me as we test out the new Proko Timer tool.

12 DAYS OF PROKO:
The 12 Days of Proko is a holiday event from December 11th to 22nd, featuring daily sketch challenges with prizes for participants using the Proko Timer tool and themed reference packs. Each day brings a new theme, and artists can submit their sketches in the Proko community for a chance to win items like courses, model packs, and tablets. Additionally, pro artists will host livestreams on YouTube, showcasing this new Timer. Check https://proko.com/12days daily for details and updates on each day’s challenge.
And don't forget about the SALE! Use code 12DAYS for 15% off anything in the Proko store.
I'm like 8 days late so I only did one, this took me 13 minutes, I'm kinda disappointed ngl but I will do more practice in my spare time. This was actually really fun
Wow. I’ve missed the first 5 days of these exercises, but saw this live stream yesterday and was bummed I’d not been paying attention to email and participating. I’ll keep going for the rest of the days of Christmas but will come back to do all the exercises, I hope, time and life permitting.
Fun fact: I wanted to practice drawing hands, I remembered that Stan said in the video that he had a website with a collection of photo references. I went to the site and started a timer with a selection of hand photos. As soon as I finished, I saw on the site that there was a 12-day challenge. And it turns out that the theme for that day was "hands." I thought it was a funny coincidence and decided to participate.
I missed the first two days though, so I'm catching up now.
The second fun fact: after painting hands, I wanted to train heads, and just this topic was next.
25mins is quite a rush! I was only able to do one out of the five attempts. I have a looong way to go before these figures look human.
Excited for the 12 Days of Proko Challenge! Day 1 is in the books (a little late, but ready for tomorrow).
I didn't have much time yesterday, so I hope the livestream replay will be available for a while!
This is a 10 minute block-in. Love the new timer feature already, and just checked the pose by layering my drawing into photoshop where the angle of the front leg was especially off - found my big problem, but open to constructive criticism/tips.
Looking forward to checking out Day 2 soon!
Sadly, I only realized this challenge existed today. But that was no excuse not to do the Day 1 Theme. :)
Made in 20min with charcoal.
Day 1 (25 min)
I deleted my previous post and tried again, with better proportions.
