Good effort. Simpler forms would be better for avoiding traps. For instance, with the Raybans case, that forward edge might just be a dark half tone and not a shadow at all, since it's on the lit side and the surface is rounded. Pencil test would answer that question. And the controller has a lot of complex plane changes and a couple of local colour changes.

The one that is floating,i was unsure if there is occlusion shadow or not

There was a few factors i was unsure of it.

Hi David,i made one layout from your script and one from my personal project.

Hi all! I made this drawing but somehow i could not get the lips right (and probably many other things :D ) please help me what do i do wrong? Thank you.

Hey Roland, great attempt. Isn't it interesting how much we learn when we attempt something like this? For me, it takes two or three such tries before I really start to understand the subject. If this was my drawing, I would follow an old Architecture design trick I used to do back in the college days. That is, I would put the drawing a fair distance away from me. Then, squinting at the drawing (or in my case taking my glasses off), I would try to interpret my creation from a "fuzzy" perspective. Evaluating the relationships of ambiguous shapes helped me judge if my drawing made sense from a design perspective.

Good try. I can't tell you the number of times that my "first-attempt" helped me see better and when I tried again, made the drawing all that more successful. I would spend more time on the hair. It feels flat.

Hi Rolland, The hair looks stunning I can tell you spent a lot of time on it, and the values are shaping up really nicely. Another thing that might help is that the lips from corner to corner would be a bit wider. When we smile the corners of our mouths are pulled outward towards the bottom of the ears and up towards the eyes because of the different muscles and this can pull the corners almost as far as the outer corner of the eye. As far as the eyes and nose and overall head shape they look really good and solid. I might also do a mini study of the mouth using the bloated Tuna can that stan mentions in his portrait video on lips. :) But overall It looks really good.

Hi everyone, here is my progress on ears,im not too satifyed with my shading here, im still constantly fail to make difference between shadow, halftone and reflected light in some pictures,i would appreciate any feedbacks and tips. Thank you.

Nice drawings! The ears look pretty good! It's mainly the shading that could need improvement I think value control and value grouping is the answer: If you have to practice putting the tone you intended on paper, practicing doing a value scale could help with gaining control https://www.dorian-iten.com/value-gradient/ https://www.dorian-iten.com/value-scale/ If the main issue is seeing values you could - practice doing value studies - squint at the reference to see what values merge into groups (note: you open your eyes again to see the true value. When you squint the contrast is exaggerated. Squinting is only a way to help you group the values) In image #6 for example, the area around the music notes merges with the darks if you squint at the photo. We want to get that same grouping in our drawing. Dorian Iten just released his shading course on proko The Shading Course – Fundamentals of Realism, Light & Shadow, and I can strongly recommend it if you want to learn how to shade. He also has the course on his own website https://www.theshadingcourse.com, where you can get a monthly membership in case buying the course is too much. Hope this helps :)
