Here is my frustration. I can draw fairly well when looking at a reference but can’t seem to translate placing those features on my heads once I get the head construction down, WHY can’t I draw without looking at something? I can copy a reference in detail but when I try to add features without looking at a reference I fail miserably. Will this course tech me HOW to go from realism by copying to realism from imagination?

I can copy a reference photo but for me, my goal is moving past that level and drawing from life and a head from imagination.

I've never taken a course here before. Are these taken on your own time and how are the assignments handled?

Yes, everything is at your own pace. You can also return to assignments and lecture videos as much as needed.
