Loving the course so far. What really struck me is just how similar Jim's advice is to the Draftsmen podcast episode on portfolios. Show the kind of work you want to be hired for, make it easy for other people to work with you and always be kind to everybody involved in the process (because it's the right thing to do but also because those are your future employers).
The bit about making behaviours that you want in others easier to do is very important. People overlook that its also true for ourselves. If you want to form good habits and behaviours in yourself, remove the barriers to actually doing them and you'll thank yourself later.
How hard is it for people from somewhere else than the U.S. to get work at one of the big american comic publishers? Are there any additional obstacles?
Damn this one made me tear up. Said a lot of things that I had been kinda worrying about for a while.
Some very useful advice. Thank you to Jim, Stan and the rest of the Proko/Marvel team for this and the rest of the lessons so far, as well as the upcoming ones. So excited to undertake some kind of assignment soon.
@Proko I really enjoyed hearing Jim's experience. This would be a great one to post on Youtube.
Since we don't have an official project yet, I'm getting ready to read The Wake (Scott Snyder/Sean Murphy) and practice some of what Jim was suggesting to analyze the story structure.
Is it possible that we get an upload schedule? Personally, I like that so that I can make a good planning in terms of time. Now it is difficult to plan as we do not know when there is a new lesson and what the subject of the lesson is.

Hey @Brenda! Generally you should see something new every Tuesday. Unlike our previous courses, we do have to go through an additional approval process with Marvel so there might be some scenarios where something gets pushed to Thursday or Friday. We're also in the early stages of the course so we're trying to front load more content so that's why you're seeing so much get published early on. Subjects will go in the order of the syllabus we won't be bouncing around. Hope this helps!
Out of curiosity how long will this first part of the course be?
Great advice! Most of this applies not just to comics, but to other art pursuits and any type of career/job.
