My drawing and notes from the 2nd part of the hand construction lesson.

Hand Basics Went for a walk after watching both videos and it occurred to me that the process in the this lesson is a truncated version of the larger process for the entire figure. First comes the Gesture, sock hand and after that you can just go at the perspective piece instead of adding tilts and masses from the plane changes of the wrist and the orientation of the palm. You hint at stretches for making connections, but again, we're trying to understand the perspective by emphasizing it here. Landmarks we get from the balls and sticks, but this again is a lower level look at tilts and masses, giving us the basis for adding the cylinders for perspective and again driving at wraps and overlaps to ensure we understand the depth, the connection and the foreshortening. And dang if it doesn't feel like the more we learn, the more things we need to practice. Deep breath josh, it's all just part of the process. Practice makes progress. Here's my version of the hand, done after watching, not during.

I wish there was a demo on how to handle the hand when it's at a smaller size like on a full figure drawing. This feels really tedious and impractical for that kind of situation. Fine if a hand is at a larger size, great for understanding, but as part of a full figure? I can't see this being useful, too much info in too small a space.

Wish we had a little more time on hands. Overall the straight hands are quite straightforward. As they interact with objects or become more dynamic it gets complicated.

Hands are something which I want to learn but, it's a pretty intimidating part to learn, I'm using the book as reference to learn the construction further.

looking at the hand as a series of rectangles, cylinders and spheres simplifies this process so much! I practiced this method with other hands

Got me! All of a sudden there were hands and i thought I somehow missed hands the instruction. :)
