4 step method homework…

Had a little tiny break-thru today :) While practicing. I have found my gestures as being a little overworked. I was spending to much time on them, and they were not looking gesture like. It got to the point where I was reversing step 5 (perspective)) and step 6 (anatomy.) I realize there is no single “right” way, but am trying to stay true to the process. Then I had a model pose that gave me some trouble with the perspective. It was a view of the model from above, and I was having trouble with the shoulders and chest, etc. After finishing the sketch, and not happy with it, I tried another quick sketch, but this time I started with perspective as my first step. Once I had the upper body and hips in two simple perspective boxes, I could easily see the structure of the shoulders, chest, and hips. Little wins.

Very cool. I like how you're using the process to problem solve!

Got me! All of a sudden there were hands and i thought I somehow missed hands the instruction. :)

Changed weight distribution and foot placement…practice, practice….

Looking good! Just watch the proportion of the torso. In relationship to your head size. This is a tricky area. Id recommend laying that chart down first. It always really helps me.

Switched to mechanical pencil for practice, easier to see lines, also used all the page real estate to help keep things from getting too muddy.

First attempt. A little sloppy :( but will keep at it. (Might try practice on computer where I can use layers for each step and lighten previous marks.)

Nice!

Yikes! The primitive shapes interaction, even with the eyes.training site was very challenging for me. I’ll keep at it :).
Michael Hampton
No doubt! They're super confusing! Like weird 3D puzzles. Great starts though just keep at it.

Great warm up activities! I need the practice. Just an observation, with ellipses, I find depending on where i start on the long end of the curve, either the middle, or “top,” or “bottom,” my ellipse will tend to have a repeatable distortion, either pinched at end, the top, or even the middle. Interesting to try starting the shapes in different locations to see what your proclivity. Thx!
Michael Hampton
Awesome! Glad you found them interesting. I also find I have weird habits when making ellipses. I tend to always make them darker and a little wobbly towards the bottom left. Not sure why yet. Must be something to do with my drawing mechanics.
