Would you say the names of the four spines (cervical, thoracic, lumbar, and front stretch) are slightly misleading? Since you are not really drawing the real 4 spines in the drawing and instead drawing 4 gesture lines that describe the movement of the torso.
Michael Hampton
Sure. If that makes more sense. Go with that!

Michael, this additional content is so great thank you. Needless to say that any future courses you add to this site will be a instant day 1 purchase for me.

oh Michael, I'm so excited for all the new videos you uploaded!! can't wait to tackle them soon. I'm taking a short break from this course to get a basic grip on basic anatomy first which i think I'm needing, and I'll then return to do all these new gesture and render classes! I've been trying to use your book (great book btw) for the muscles in the later chapters, but because i am severely colour blind I struggle a lot understanding what all the muscles are... but i'll get there heh
Michael Hampton
Awesome! Good luck with anatomy.

Having studied your gestures a good bit, this is fascinating to hear you talk about it. It's interesting to me that you have gesture at this part of the course. To me it makes sense in that while a drawing starts with a gesture, the gesture itself is loaded with intuitions born of prior learning. For instance, you make good use of structural thinking with your wrapping lines and anatomical knowledge creeps in all over the place. So while every drawing starts with a gesture, it's hard to do them well without knowing lots of other things. To improve on gesture, one must practice gesture AND structure AND anatomy, etc. Even when trying to break down this complex skill into its simpler components, gesture doesn't completely breakdown devoid of other studies. I'm very much enjoying this. Thank you for taking more time to dive into this subject.
Michael Hampton
I totally agree with you. Glad you're enjoying!
