My submission for the thumbnail challenge, at the last minute. Five 2" x 2" gouache landscapes. One was a little rushed, go ahead and guess...
My submission for the thumbnail challenge! Had a lot of fun, learned a lot about gauche as well. Thanks!
The theme for this month's challenge is "Pathways and Mountains". Paint medium: Himi Jelly and WN Gouache. Brushes: Craftamo. 12 round and 3/4" mop. Paper: Canson Mixed Media. Lighting is a bit dark in my room. Will post progress pictures on my Instagram. First challenge and it was great fun! Images from Unsplash, names credited beneath each painting and reference screenshot.
The theme for my collection is The Great Ocean Road, where I visited last year. I had lots of fun on this one, using Photoshop, which I got recently. My least favourite would probably be the top middle. Just got the images off the internet, from:
1. Darren J Bennett photography
2. Dreamstime.com
3. Silentravel.com
4. Visitmelbourne.com
5. Visitgreatoceanroad.org.au

Here's my another entry. It's my first time using photoshop. so hard! gotta invest for pen tablet.
I did 4 in digital using ProCreate. I used the round brush and flat brush. For the smudge tool I used old brush. I'm not used to using digital tools for this sort of project, so it was a great opportunity to practice new techniques and expand my skills.
For the 2x2 gouache thumbnails, I used size 12 round brush, and 3/4" flat brush. I took a picture of all the paints I used. I didn't realize until starting that I didn't have any warm reds so I had to get around it as best as I could.
It’s very fun attempting these thumbnails. The very 2nd time I tried gouache. Very satisfying. Thank you, Tiffany, for the great demo.
Great and fun challenge. Found many mistakes, corrected some habits, learned many things and changed my perspective on thumbnailing.
Thumbnails -- 2 x 2 inch painted with gouache on Arches 140 pound coldpress, using 2 brushes, a 3/4 in flat and size 10 round. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I like painting with larger brushes. i live in Minnesota so I decided to embrace it and paint snow and ice scenes. Great challenge to start out the new year!
Always looking for an excuse to practice landscapes since I can't seem to bring myself to doing it most of the time. Had fun with it, but definitely have room to improve. Decided to change up some of the references a bit because, why not, but unfortunately I lost the reference for the snowy thumbnail. Everything was done in Procreate using a hard round brush and textured flat brush.
This has been a very fun challenge. I look forward to using this method for a long time coming.
As I usually focus on Character Concept Art, this challenge was really cool as I could practice something out of my comfort zone. All of these are done with the Flat Brush in Procreate 🌸
