I love painting portraits but I still need to improve. I'm trying to find my style and make my paintings look interesting. What do you think about it?

Your work is very good! You appear to handle physical features nicely. I would suggest you vary your background sometimes. Dark background with dark features leaves me feeling disturbed. Too heavy. This is just my opinion though. Great work!

There's a lot of great stuff in these. It's hard to give advice without knowing what you're going for. What do you feel needs improvement? What's "interesting" to you? In your opinion, is there something missing from these that keeps them from being interesting?

I think brushwork, shape design and colors can make a painting interesting. But when I look at my own it feels flat and lifeless, and if I try to exaggerate the proportions or the colors to make it pop it just looks like I messed up. So I'm trying to make it somewhat realistic but also unique and I'm not sure what should I change to achieve that.

Yo! My advice for you is increase your value range a little bit on womans and show the highlights, a little bit of blush, some red/pink on cheekbones... That's the juicy part of doing portraits. :) Hope you find this useful.

Thank you I keep that in mind!

I was gonna say the same thing: your brushwork looks a bit too slick and samey. Maybe study edges and breakup patterns (how the edges appear in the transition from shadow to light). Texture is mainly about two things: silhouette and breakup pattern

Thank you for the tip! I have a hard time painting edges, whenever I try it looks unfinished so I keep blending it. But I will try to focus on it!

Hi there, your work looks nice. And my opinion is that, you are using the same kind brush and everything looks similar everywhere, you need more variety of texture also try to hold the blacks down a little bit, I suggest you to research some tutorial on how to render hair. Good luck :)
