This is Frank Frazetta's "The Huntress". I was totally blown away by his art. I did my best to remake it without much shadow. I tried to convey hierarchy, shadow, and depth with my lines. I know the proportions of the drawing are off. I enjoyed drawing this very much! I appreciate any and all comments. Thank you so much! :D

Nice work! keep at it... Only advice I could give is more gesture and edges. IE: Things in real life or on Franks painting there is no thick black out line.

Hey there, Vincent! For this assignment, the focus is on the line weight, so you don't have to worry about shading at all. Instead, try conveying the light & shadow through the linework itself, e.g. the shadow section on the left side would have heavier linework than the very light side, with thin linework. You have good practice already with the Hierarchy version, so it's just a matter of applying the same technique but using light to guide you instead. Hope this helps! :)

Hey everyone! I'm still learning how to be less of a perfectionist. It's a journey, but through weeks of sketching I'm getting the hang of it. Please critique my work. I love to learn and grow. Thank you in advance!

The proportions of the boots were a bit off, but I’m pleased with my progress in each drawing. This lesson significantly improved my line flow, and the mushroom exercise has been incredibly beneficial—I practice it every day! I welcome any critiques, as I'm always eager to grow as an artist. Thank you in advance!

Something that can help is starting out with a lay-in drawing before going in with CSI lines, so this would be a very light and quick sketch that marks out the major outline and shape without any detail. At this stage, any necessary corrections (e.g. if your drawing goes off the page) can easily be done, and it will help as a guide for your final lines. You have great flow and confidence in your linework, but remember that even once you put down a line, there's still the possibility to do it over on top if it doesn't hit the intended mark the first time. Having this possibility can really bring in a good rhythm and flow to your line quality as you draw and assess. Keep at it! :)

Hello everyone! I wanted to share my first attempt at drawing a pear before watching the demo. It's been years since I last picked up a pencil to draw! As a beginner with no formal training, just some art classes in high school, I'm excited to be part of this program and eager to grow as an artist. Comments and feedback are welcomed—I believe that's how we learn and improve. Huge thanks to all the instructors for their guidance!

Hi there! I think you're off to a great start. You have a wonderful clarity, both in your simplified shapes and in your rendering of values. The thing I'd suggest is to push your value choices to reflect the idea of a light vs a shadow side. The darkest area on the pear serves as a mark for this division, with the right side being hit directly by light and the left side cast in shadow. Lightening the 2nd lightest value can help emphasize this idea, as well as using only the 2 darkest values on the left side to emphasize the darkness of the shadow. That way, there's more three-dimensionality of the pear. Hope this helps, and welcome to the course! :)
