Here is my crack at the analysis of some of my favorite refernce images. It's absolutely facinating to me that these artists have such control of these techniques and use them to great effect to tell stories through their images! I hope some day I can get a fraction of what they are able to do in my own work.

So I'm really digging working on Iso graph paper and wanted to share a discovery. I was messing around sketching last night trying to figure out how to rotate isometric cubes on graph paper by construction rather than measuring everything. I was getting bored with just drawing objects just looking up or down. What about left and right?? What I found is that the x,y,z axis of an isometric cube can be described by an equalateral triangle (60,60,60). I found that drawing the triangles first let me orient the cube in different ways on the graph paper. Then I tried it freehand and.. mind blown. It works on triangles of any orientation or size! Check out my process in the images below. @Marshall Vandruff any other tricks like this you'd care to share?

Practicing isometric drawing along with experimenting with different shading and line techniques to enhance a sense of depth. Also getting used to working with tracing paper and a light box!

Ok been a while since I did any drafted so I thought I’d start out simple. First image is the template I made on bind paper. Next vellum trace over using line weights only and finally adding some tone. The idea was that the right image is “inverted” from the on the left. Also included one of the pages of ideation i did.
