Snail was fun. Got half way through my first attempt at the boots and thought "Stan can't mean us to draw the laces, surely? This is just the contours of the boots?" Then watched the demo - hmmm - yes, we are supposed to do the laces! So second attempt includes the laces - but I got the proportions of the boots wrong - only noticed once I started doing the laces - the boots are too tall. But I like the shape of them, so I stuck with what I had drawn. When you look at the laces as a collection of shapes and edges, they don't seem too bad .... I guess that's the point of the lesson?

Precisely! It's really easy to get tripped up on the laces but you did a great job. Something that could help you with proportions is to make an 'envelope' using shapes or light, loose marks to work out the width and the height on the page before you start making more permanent marks.

Varying pressure around the ellipse - holy cow! that's gonna take some practice! I'm right handed and draw an ellipse without thinking in an anti-clockwise direction. When I try to draw in a clockwise direction I have virtually no control at all. More practice?

I'd spent a while watching the free content on YouTube so was in a hurry to get to the Premium content on this course. My first attempt at the pear was a real rush - 10 mins max, no halftones, only 3 values, but I wanted to get to the first "real" video as quickly as possible.
Second attempt was after watching Stan's demo - learned lots of stuff and was more patient about this one
