Asked for help
I did my master study on a poster Yuko Shimizu created. She does a black and white inking of her sketch prior to digital art enhancements. I focused on just the hand. I thought it showed a lot of line weight variety and was a good example to learn from. I was very surprised how well mine turned out. I thought my copy was trash the entire time but said "This is practice if it's bad so what. Complete it and you'll still have created and accomplished something." Then when I got done, I was like blown away. Cause I thought it was gonna be bad and it turned out pretty good.
Side note:
She shows her entire process on her website. Just click on any picture and it will bring up a gallery showing thumbnails, gestural sketches, rough sketches, inking and digital enhancement. I think seeing that is great because it shows how even a master who has been doing this her entire life starts with something very rough. https://yukoart.com/category/work

First one is importance and the first one is light.
I'm happy with the first one.
Second one I don't like the heavy mark on the back of the rhino. Minus that I'm happy with it.

Second image is before the demo. First image was after the demo. Catching myself making lines to find the line instead of first imaging it was a big help. I still had the searching lines, but they were more intentional. Laying down the first shape with much more care was key as well. Learned a lot from this exercise.

snail first go.
Any advice would be appreciated. My lines feel scratchy. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong of if it is just muscle memory/dexterity and will correct itself with practice.

It's just a bit of shift you have to make in mindset. Instead of making many small, dark searching lines, train yourself to consciously make long, loose and very light lines. It may feel a bit unnatural at first but keep practicing, you want to start darkening the lines once you've found the ones that you feel good about. This process may slow you down a bit as well, but you will rebuild speed with practice. Nice use of CSI here. You're on the right track!

I should have used a larger sketchbook. I'll know for next time. I felt good about it until I started putting the inner planes.
