I'm back again after a long break, looking forward to picking up where I left off! During the break I did some drawings and pastel art and others noticed my skills have gone to a new level, thanks Stan!

Here's my master's line weight project. I love Dave Malan's art, the way he communicates light and shadow AND form! I won't see faces the same even though this project was brain bending! This was much harder than I thought it would be and he looks like a totally different person, but get, I'm practicing 😊

I am just now watching the rest of these line weight vids after the holidays and I had an epiphany, so that's all my post is for now as I haven't done a sketch practicing this yet. As Stan was talking about these not being rules but that you get to decide how to use them depending on the purpose of your drawing, I realized something very freeing. I used to look at a reference photo (which btw, are always beautiful photography!) and love the beauty the photo communicated so much that I wanted to recreate it exactly with whatever medium I chose. I thought that's what made me a good artist. Now I see that there's a whole shop of art skills, like tools in a wood shop. I can learn how to use each one and then create what I want! It's incredible to think about! Who am I as an artist and what would I create? It's like a big open space just opened up in front of me, inviting me to explore and play and discover! They're not rules, they're tools :)

I love the shapes of feet and hands, really love those two in your practice drawings!
@shedraws37
Making time anywhere I can to draw. This one was fun and challenging as I don't often draw geometrical shapes like this. I guess I'm behind everyone else, but it's really fun to see what people are drawing! Any comments on this would be helpful as it's hard to tell if what I think I'm doing in actually executing 😂

Here's my attempt After Stan's demo, chose another ref so i'm not tempted to copy his ! I'm not used to use pencils, my strokes look horrible lmao :'( Any feedback is welcome ! :) Thank you
@shedraws37
Not bad! That's a great reference photo. I also am not used to pencil and struggled to get my pencil to consistently make the same line pressure. Practice practice :)
@hardlight
I tried this lesson again with a ceramic dog. Thinking about the plane changes and how they connect really helped me. Also, receiving feedback about lightening edges lines was very beneficial.

Well done!

Hi, I just enrolled in this course a few days ago. I am completely new to drawing or any form of visual art. It is my fourth try at drawing fruits or vegetables. I finally was able to draw something that I could show to other people. I do not have my sketchbook yet, so I drew on the back side of a piece of used printing paper.
@shedraws37
Not bad for being brand new to it! I also started a few days ago and am excited to also have a community around art!

This exercise turned out to be a lot more difficult than I’d expected. The proportions of the face got a bit away from me.
@shedraws37
It's not bad though! Great job!

Here's my 3rd attempt at this project. I found a cheat sheet so to speak that helped a lot and I'll probably use in all my future practice drawings! It'll help train my eye to keep certain values the same throughout a drawing. You may be able to see it in the photo of my drawing. Love any feedback!
