I've chosen "100 years Old Solitude". Not because I enjoy magical realism. It's because it's the last one I've read. I haven't watched the tv show. Too many images, symbols, themes is my head.
So Step by step? Ok. Let's start with the words:
There are so many. I must remember Hundley's advice: telling us not to complicate too much. But which one(s) to choose?

I read this book years ago, so much in it. Your ideas look great. I love this course because I'm getting to revisit books and films I loved in my youth😁.
I've gone with The Crucible.🙃

So I have chosen Dracula and read the first chapter, Jonathan travelling to Dracula's home.
First, I've started writing down the elements: Wolves, Carriage, Train, East Europe, 19th century, Dracula, spooky environment. Blood and fog.
I have not done thumbnails yet. How can I unite these elements in a interesting way? How can I see with the eyes of a movie director?
I have done these images below without references. This is my third try. First ones were too messy.

This is the most difficult part.. Making choices. Which one? How to find your own style and sacrifice others when you can make anything and everything.
I ended up choosing ones that served the most narrative sense ) + made sure that they would be spread inside the story just a bit, so the “client” could choose where we would go further)
At list I hope I would get an opportunity to do so😂
+ if a scene, that you chose, is recurring may be it would work better there [that is also what I said myself in order to finally post something here - tusk must be done😂]
Nice work. I like the first one on top left and the one at the bottom. POV, very interesting.
Yesterday I've spent my whole time which book to choose. Can't remember any fiction entirely. And I have so many favourites. I'll read just one chapter and proceed with Dracula probably.

I wanted to add the darkest dark and use more values. So this was limiting. But I think I caught the most important points.

Should I learn digital? That would save me so much time to correct anything.
I attach this as it is. I'm not correcting it. (by saying that I fail, cause the point was to simplify, I can't unsee the details)

First I've messed up with mediums I never use (I'm an oil painter and I do my sketches with charcoal and graphite pencil, rarely do monocolour watercolours, never digital). So I've quit the black paper thing unfinished. Then, I've chosen the less complicated composition and understood the assignment. Every thumbnail had a different mood and hierarchy of elements. I should work more on thumbnails and learn what to leave behind.

Please use any medium that you feel comfortable with! Choosing to leave information out is a big part of thumb nailing! It comes with time and experience. Nice work on these @Basak !
