You're getting the gesture. But it looks like you're focusing a lot on the contours or outline. Try to exaggerate elements of the pose, especially the initial gesture line. For example, in the female figure, I would drop a curved line from her right shoulder out to her right hip then back to her left foot. Then drop another s line indicating the front of her right thigh and the back of the calf and out through her right foot. Just an idea. Keep drawing.

Tried out some references before watching the next video. Any advice on what I should improve?

The others have offered good advice so far. I agree with them. At first glance I see your initial gesture line. Then you seem to abandon the gesture and work on the contours. I suggest, after you make your first gesture line, use additional simplified gesture lines to indicate the limbs. I'd also suggest using the images form the videos. Pause the video if you need to and set your own timer. Gesture is meant to be quick lines to get the idea of the pose. I like the action poses you have chosen. Keep practicing.

Hi, everyone! I've been doing the figure drawing course for almost 2 months and it's been really helpful. I realized most of my past drawings were filled with mistakes regarding motion and force. Now I feel a bit more confident with the results I'm getting and way more motivated to keep on practicing. Anyways, I'd appreciate some critique with these 30 sec - 1 min sketches I've done within the last week. I feel my proportions are off and I'm using too many lines. Thanks in advance!

Hello. I'm also taking the figure drawing course. After looking at your drawings, I don't think you're using too many lines. However, some of the lines you chose don't really work with the rest of the image. But these are not meant to be finished drawings. An example of what I mean: the upper left arm and shoulder of image 1 are rather bulbous. While the rest of the image is not. Image 7 appears to be the same model, yet in this one you used a gentle sweeping line for the arm that works much better. Image 2 has a wonderful twist to the torso and perspective to the right leg. Yet I find the line from the neck around the left breast distracting. I think taking that line from under the breast to the left armpit instead would have flowed better and continued the gesture through the extended arm. On a whole, I think you've captured the gesture of each pose. Proportions will come, so don't fret too much about those. Again. These are sketches and practice.

I'm new to drawing human bodies. Which one should I learn first? The anatomy or the figure drawing? PLease help me out.

I'm going through the figure drawing fundamentals course right now. I would suggest starting there. The course starts with basic concepts and builds on those. Anatomy is important too. However, you don't necessarily need it to start and you will learn it as you go.

Here are some 3o second and two minute poses from the two videos.
