I think I need a lot more practice. My second try does look better than the first one, but man that nose, and all the angels in this picture makes it one of the more difficult projects I've tried so far.
I cannot wait to see the critique video, to learn more and see where I can improve.

Great thing is that because you did 2 tries you already see improvement. It really works to keep doing the exercise.

I do not see the reference photo in the download. I am excited to start this drawing project.

I choose Dave Malan. I think there is beauty in Simplicity, I love the simple yet elegant style of his line drawings.
I am wondering, if the homework is to copy an artist is it okay to take some liberties? I wanted to add eye lashes to the right eye, even though Dave Malan did not.
I have decided to try another of Dave Malan's drawings. This one took 4 tries to get it to kind of look like it. I still have some mistakes that I can see, especially in the neck.
I feel like for a lot of us level 1 artists this was hard, but we have to try and try again to succeed. I am a firm believer that we learn through play, so draw a lot until the drawing gets better.

More Kley study (this is my 3rd day). Frst I roughly sketched with 2H pencil, then inked with Micron 0.3 & 0.5. Can't get the same feel of the pen strokes as his.
Even though I do not think I am a level 2 artist yet, I wan to try this, this looks fun. 🤩

I've learned today that if I use a color pencil that I cannot erase easily that I do better with being more free and relaxed, I know it is weird but it worked for me. I am excited to see where the is going to go from here.
I absolutely love sketching in color pencils. Especially soft color pencils (if you can get Caran d'Ache brand). Sometimes it's really refreshing to sketch in color.
Colored pencil also works wonderfully for the first rough sketch.
I've seen specific blue pencils used for comic roughs because it can be erased easily in digital later in the process.
Funny that Stan said even if you get the curves in the wrong spot it still looks like boots. When my family saw the boots before they saw the reference picture, they thought it was amazing boots😂

I cannot wait for the demonstration video. But I wanted to share my picture anyway even though there is so many things wrong with both of them and I might have a bold spot from pulling my hair out to try the shoe laces on the boots.😉😂
I thought the boots were going to be easier than the slug, but man was I wrong.

I have realized that I do better drawing from a photo than a real object from observation. I still have a lot to learn here.
I am also not sure how much detail to add to these line drawings. Is my drawings too simple and child like?
No, not child like. But I think it's better to draw from life instead from a photo. You'll train the eye-hand coordination better. It's harder, but I think you'll make real progress. I'm no expert, it's just my experience.
Just try not to move (ha-ha), so that the proportions/perspective doesn't change too much all the time.
Honestly I felt like the main objective of the challenge was to set a habit while also practicing lines. I don't think detail is the issue just making a bunch of lines.

I must say fruit are boring😂. But I guess we have to learn the boring pictures before we can do the exciting and fun pictures.
